waeco cf 80 power use question when using 240 volt.

Post by V8 Hilux »

When using 240 volt power in the house my 80 litre waeco seems to run all the time. It is the new or current model with auto turbo built in (no button for it)

I think that with the varable speed compressor (when on 240 volt) it will run at low speed to avoid stop/starting all the time. I found something on the waeco site about the AE0 (adaptive energy optimiser) technology which limits to switching, regulates the compressor speed?

My brother reckons there must be something wrong with it as it never seems to cycle off. I think it is ok, it was a warm night mid 20s inside house, in a transit bag. Had it set at -16 and would go colder if adjusted it. but otherwise seems to just keep ticking over continously  and not cycing off unless i adjusted it warmer!

I am just trying make sure there is nothing wrong with the fridge. in the process upgrading dual battery system (maybe even go triple bat). i have just purchase a 120watt solar panel kit and have two extreme excide wet cell battery 80ah which i'm am going to change to deep cycle!

(I have been using 12dc clamp meter solar putting in 7.5amps in full sun fridge taking out about 4 amps and has been running fridge all night except one (poor sun day) fridge cut out set at medium which is 11.9 volts. freezer temp got up to -11. i know i need a bit more battery storage!)

Mate I'm actually the repair agent for them on the sunshine coast, when set to minus 16 they won't shut down because of how cold you're setting it. Nothing wrong wit it as long as it does cycle off on warmer temps, hence why it's not a great idea to set them that cold when running them off your car battery, I've got an older model 50l at it does the same thing if I set it bellow about minus 10. If you're worried about it though take it to a service agent and let them test it, if it's under 3 years old a test like that is all still covered under the warrenty. Pm me if you have any other questions about it.

Thats a bit of a worry Suggy. Maybe you could help me out.

I use my CF80 with the divider in, freezer section always chockers with meat. I find to keep my beers icy cold I have to run the thing flat out at minus 18-20 all the time. I'll drop it back when we hit the sack and it's not going to be open for a while. As you said the unit is pretty much always running during the day and boy does it suck the power.

I've tried running it at a warmer temp but even overnight I find the beers are barely cool in the morning. I've experimented with removing dividers, replacing dividers with bits of cardboard to try and allow me to run it at a warmer temp but it just ends up not freezing the upper half of the freezer section with a divider removed or modified.

Any ideas? I'm sure you are one bloke I won't get "shoulda bought an engel" from, even if thats what i'm starting to think :(

Going to add a 3rd batt before our next big trip if I can't resolve it.
