Post by 4x4joel4x4 »

I got it home  , a long drive in the old girl! 2 and a half hours i think, the whole car is fantastic and excelent condision, sure it needs a bit of love but for the age it is a bloody ripper! all i noticed is the floor bit near the gearbox got a little hot. but i guess this is normal as there is just a metal floor in it at the moment, the car runs great idles perfect and runs perfect dosent miss a beat and it sounds great!! only has some rust under the driver side and thats it!!!! gears are smooth and the clutch is better than my pajero!

When the trucks go past it mooves you around a bit on the road but its all werth it i got it for 2,800 down from 4,000 as he needed the cash asap so i am stoked on life. i cant wait to be getting into doing it up!

as posted in other subject it needs a hand brake cable witch i can get from a wreckers or whatever and a speedo cable and i need to cut out the passengers floor and weld up a new plate to get it road werthy

o and i am lookin for some tyres 33/12.5/15 in mud terrians if any one has or knows of any one selling cheers.

You might want to keep 2 sets of tyres if you get 33s. Its not much fun getting that massive 80hp engine to push bigger tyres if you are just driving around town, and having such a short wheel base and narrow track i think you will find the standard 7.50 r16 or 31x10.5 will give most other cars a run for their money off road.

all i noticed is the floor bit near the gearbox got a little hot.
check the oil in the gearbox. I had the seal between transfer and gearbox go and was loosing some oil from the transfer and on long drives you could feel the heat coming from the trans tunnel as there wasn't much oil in the gearbox. when i finally went to get teh seal fixed I think they found I only had about 1lt of oil in the gearbox..

nice buy! is it the 3B or just the B engine? Take some engine bay pics.. nice score and they are great fun. 7.50R16's are the way to go and a set of play tyres are the go!

Oh and I've got a hardtop for sale if you're interested :)

Oh yeah, it's definitely badass... unless it rains... or there's dust lol.

It's got a bikini top and I'm busily constructing a factory-style canvas soft top for it to tide me over until I can get up to QLD in the next month or so. You see, all the hardtops are in QLD lol.

Legal to run without doors too. Probably not all that safe, and makes you a target for other stuff like defect inspections, but definitely legal.

really? just in NSW or what? i've seen a few half door 40's running around here in QLD, but have yet to see one on the road with the doors off.

any more info on the legality?

not sure how far along you are on your soft top, but check this out. the price and the quality are top notch.

Sorry for the hijack Joel... I'll be quick.

Crusty, I know they are legal because I was pulled over on Boxing Day by a NSW Highway Patrol copper. He was looking to defect me after breath testing me. Doors were off, but the windscreen was up. He walked around, checked everything he wanted to check, then gave me back my license, said have a good day and drove off.

I've seen references to ADRs on this and other forums which prove it - maybe in a discussion suzuki sierras? I can't provide any links unfortunately. Turns out it's legal for a 40 because they were sold from the factory in that configuration and the doors don't have any anti-intrusion bars. But... t's definitely not recommended in case you get T-boned (= likely death for you or pax) or flip the vehicle (= legs flying out and getting chewed up as you roll).
