i am going to look at a bj40 today!!!! hell yaaa
this has bin my dream since i got into 4wding, i currently own a 1996 pajero gls with a 2 inch lift and muddies on it, and i am so fr***en over having a luxary car. i can't wait to get into somthing with metal everything and no electronics and with seats that make you feel like your in a truck ! and the first thing i am going to do is fold down the windscreen ha ha like in the war movies Hell ya!
i will post pics when i get it home and when i get it fixed up and out into the mud, it needs a new handbrake/speedo cables and the steering is a little loose i hope this isn't a costly problem? but ohwell i want it anyway!
THE old girl is now home and the work begins i got it for 2,800 a real bargain, it works fine except the battery goes flat after say 14 hours of non use what might that be? the battery is brand new.

the time will only make me grow fonder of this beautyyyyy! thanks for all the heads up guys i think the car is a good pick up.Ricko wrote:I love the enthusiasm! That may fade with time...
Loose steering is common in a 40, but not something to ignore. Check idler as suggested, tie rod ends and even the hubs for loose/broken studs.
Man I wish that was true. Mine has cost a bit more than thatDIRTY ROCK STAR wrote:there goes 20 grand heheheh.
But hey, welcome to the club. I'm glad to hear there is always another person that is just as crazy as the rest of us 40 owners.
it's never a problem until it can't be fixed, even then it' only a minor set back

gotta be a leak somewhere, is anything hardwired to the battery? you'll prob find there is something that is draining the battery4x4joel4x4 wrote::it works fine except the battery goes flat after say 14 hours of non use what might that be? the battery is brand new.
Is it beer o'clock yet??

x2. look for wires from the battery terminal instead of the fused systems. find what is still working with the keys off.aussie_stu wrote:gotta be a leak somewhere, is anything hardwired to the battery? you'll prob find there is something that is draining the battery4x4joel4x4 wrote::it works fine except the battery goes flat after say 14 hours of non use what might that be? the battery is brand new.
are you sure its new new? not 6 months old new and just sat around for the whole time without use? this can kill a battery, so that it charges up ok, starts the car, then over night it will be flat again.
*there's a rock, drive over it :) there's a bigger rock, drive over it  there's an even bigger rock, oops broke it  Upgrade broken bit :bad-words:

to check if it is the battery or a power drain disconnect it charge it up then check what the voltage is without anything connected to it, leave it over night disconnected then check the voltage again the next day if the voltage has dropped significantly then the battery is no good if it is still at the same voltage as the nioght before then its a power drain in the car somewhere
Well well well, another 40 owner.... ohh boy... enjoy your ride mate but know this...... after awhile no-one will want to ride with you as they have a tendency to like their bodies in one condition.. good. we 40 series lovers are a breed of our own.. and after 15 years.. I'm deaf from the lack of sound proofing, my back aches from the lack of suspension, and have arms as big as tree trunks from pulling the steering wheel no power steering....... I am a glutton for punishment as i will NEVER GIVE UP MY 40.
On the plus side... they are as tough as nails, don't quit without a fight and you can take em anywhere. shopping centers are great as no-one wants to get to close cause they are afraid they might get there little buzz boxes scratched. and after 35 years of the 40 being around... if you can think of a modification chances are someone else has done it and can tell you how to do it yourself. welcome to the club
