i want to turbo a jimny
i want to turbo a jimny
i have a factory stock jimny ( new model one) had it for a few years now and wanna do a lil upgrade to it, i doh want any noisy ride, just want to boost it without any excessive noise. i wanted to know what i may need to get to do this project such as turbo size,intercooler size,piping, etc.and what the cost might be? also would it be cheaper to get the parts out of the already turbo jimny and just put it in, or can i get new parts and work from there which i would prefer once the price is good, thanks.
can someone give me a parts list of what i may need to get to do this? any suspension upgrades, brakes, cooling,etc. i dont want any fully mod.van just a lil bit of boost to play around with, its an auto tranny and im keeping it cuz other ppl use the van aswell, but any other tips? any engine mods to be done?etc. thanks

this is a old wise tail a well selected turbo will supply excellent low end torquealien wrote:supercharger gives boost low down while turbos generally are more for higher RPM. Theres threads on supercharging too if you search.

the current jimnys come in a 660cc turbo version in japan, the turbo from that would be too small, and none of the parts will match up.
a CT9 turbo from a starlet GT, or Glanza v would be a good size too, as they are designed for 1300cc engines, so it would boost at lower revs, if you're after all out power, go for a TDO4 from a wrx, they work really well on 1300s, a lot of torboed suzuki swifts, and toyota starlets run these.
As some have said already, look into a supercharger, one from a 4AGZE engined corolla would be perfect size, and you can change pulley sizes to get it to boost at lower or higher revs.
but either way you go, you'll have to have a lot of fabrication done, like an exhaust manifold for whatever turbo you want, or brackets for S.C. and custom piping for either.
Don't forget about engine management either, jimnys are EFI, which means you'll need an aftermarket computer, as i doubt there'll be any piggyback systems for the jimny. (unless another suzuki with the same EMS has? Ignus sport?)
for the whole job, unless you find a complete kit, or you're a fabrication wizz don't expect much change from $4000.

I would have said $7000. He will most certainly need bigger injectors, fuel pump, regulator, and maybe even a custom fuel rail depending on what injectors are available for the application. That alone could add up to $2K. Then there is a manifold and exhaust as mentioned, intercooler and radiator requirements, oil and water supply and return lines for turbo, piping, BOV's and boost controllers/jets, and at the very least a GOOD piggyback ECU that can control fuel and timing. And then there is the Dyno time. Most places will charge well over $100hr, with a minimum of 4hrs for this sort of tune.Liljim wrote: don't expect much change from $4000.

i done it for just under 2g without the computer. this was sourcing parts from the usa as it was way cheaper than here in aus, i never did end up finishing it though as i sold it.

Did you upgrade any of the fuel system? It would be hard to do without having an ECU for it. There is no way you could tell if the duty cycle of the injectors was enough for additional requirement due to turbo. Or the fuel pump, or reg, or rail.
So really you mounted a turbo and intercooler for 2G. Thats a far cry from a complete turbo install.
