Thanks mick,(smurf) yeah i am making a new tray at the moment. I want the tyre to be under the tray and have storage tool box's as well, its been a logistical nightmare with measurements because im fitting 37" to it.
I need the tray to be as low to the ground as possible of coarse and make it match the height of the bottom of the side doors. Am gettin there thou.
Thanks Alan.

You can see l am going to have toolboxes on the left and the right, they will be fully enclosed in alloy-checker plate with the centre where the tyre is, will be left open due to access to the second battery.

The roll bar is going to double as an air tank. I will plumb the compressor in to the underside and have an air fitting coming out on the inside of the tray for easy access.

I have sides getting bent up 200mm high that will match the window ledge of the vehicle.

Now that l have the car and tray in undercoat l can see it all coming together.

Looks great... i like the dual cab chops..... I like them more when there is a slight chassis extensiona also.. but these do look good. for some reason i think that role bar could be a little straighter. but i see you have followed the cab.. Each to their own. I think it looks the good either way.

Complete sliding windows, he is a real helpful bloke that will make to any measurements, mine cost 250 plus delivery and gst .not bad considering ya cant find anywhere in vic to make em. Only buy standard sizes from the canopy off ARB or Carryboy, but they are to small for me. Anyway hope that helps.

Les did my GQ. The bits he did came looking real good. Just wish Juzza was able to finish it. Luckily I got some other mates who can weld.

I was chatting to the engineer about mine. Has anyone with a back wall by Les put anything on it to stop any drumming noise?
As the Engineer suggest welding some small square tube to it to stop it.

I like your back window. Wish I had set mine up to go that way (still might). I am using the window frames from the barn doors (plus parts of a 3rd one). To build a full window frame. Its going to be a big window.

Thanks for the compliments, if anyone is interested in a dual cab chop project then Les is the man to speak to on 0403173356. He is in the west side of melbourne. He cut and welded the roof and back panels in along with everything that goes with making the cab ready for an engineer. Then you (if your able) Finish the cab, design and make your tray the way you ve always wanted it. Some places may charge upwards of 7k, i have heard 15k in QLD thats drive in drive out with a tray and all. Mine however has cost all up $5,150.00 thats everything from paying les just for the cab chop, the engineer, paint n bog and sandpaper, all the steel and weld wire i used, locks, lights, cheq steel and cheq alloy, sliding window, hinges, seam sealant, rivots, i mean everything and i ve got what i ve always wanted.
I will finish the sides and tool boxes properly in the next 2 weeks and post some pics for all to see, just so busy on weekends with other shit like weddings and bdays n stuff, much rather at home finishing my prolect.
Again, thanks for the compliments.

GU Dualcab Conversion & tray build

Post by alangould »

Final pics of ute sides and tool boxes, mud flaps and locks. I sprayed the sides and rear in the same colour as the vehicle for something different, the black on the wheel arch matches and follows the black on the tray side and the side of the 4x matches and follows the tray side. I used adjustable latches front and rear because it pulls the sides in tight and with no rattles. Hope you like.

Will be changing suspension next week sometime, 4" spring, superior super flex arms, and so on, will show pics when done. It will suit the 37" tyres properly.

Looks awesome mate. The steel for your sides, did you have them bent up or can you buy steel already with that profile?

Looking good mate!

Your build was the inspiration for my chop that is going to be finished soon.
I didn't like the look of the original ute cab-back. Neither did I like the price of ute-cabs from the wreckers

So I decided to go with the d-pillars as you did! Good job.

Mine will be a bit more "rough" as mates and myself done it, but it will be driven hard anyway and it's already pretty smashed up haha

Thanks for the ideas mate!
