bigest size alternators for my discovery

bigest size alternators for my discovery
gday every one wats the biggest size alternator i can run on my disco ?
I have a friend who fitted up an alternator off a fire truck to rvr8
at idle it puts out 160 amps.
A fire truck will sit all night with lights on high beam emrgency lights on comms equipment in use and associated electrical drain.
He runs thermo fans, 6hp winch motor and a few lights.
To fit it - bulge in bonnet, scallop to rocker cover, relocate this and that.
Any alternator is possible, the engine will turn it just check the revolutions per minute that it needs to put out it's charge.
You can play with the gearing using the pulley wheel size but ultimatley you will need it to charge while off roading which usually means fairly low engine sppeeds throughout the day, not the highway cruising speeds that is normaly built in.
Find an auto electrician who understands what you want.
If in doubt move on to another one you can always come back.
Bracketry is fairly simple as there was so many variations from the factory.

out of my mind, back soon.
A capacitor wont supply you extra power, all it does is provide smooth power delivery from your battery if you have sharp current draws (ie massive subs). I think the easiest and most effective option would be to upgrade to the 100amp jobbies that the later discos had (at least mine anyway).team_little_legs wrote:thanks for the imput .... but im acturly after more power for my streo to be specifc
do you think i would be better off with a capasitor ?
im also running rooflights and normal driving light ?
Mine quite easily supports thermo fans, stereo (10"sub, front splits and rear 2 ways).
