Any difference in td42 and td42"t" Head Gaskets?
Any difference in td42 and td42"t" Head Gaskets?
Hey all, as the topic states im wondering if there is a difference in these gaskets? and if so can i use a "TD42T" Head Gasket on a TD42 that is now turbo'd with bout 16psi.
I wondering all this as ive blown my Head Gasket and wonder what my best option for a new gasket is ie:
Genuine TD42?
Genuine TD42T?
Cheap Shit Burson Special?
Brass?
As i said motor is running bout 16psi, got 400,000 on the clock and is a "88" model Mav, Yes its a shit load of kms and yes ive used the search button
Also if the motor doesnt look to bad with the head off should i be putting new headbolts or can you get a stud kit for these motors or are studs over kill?
Cheers Jarrod

gudday
go genuine gasket, you have a couple of thickness options.
use new bolts as they are designed to stretch.
No theres no stud option unless you make them yourself.
keep it clean clean clean!
good luck

goto patrol forum and PM Nizzbits for all the cheap gear and info
Cheers Guys, Thanks for the info, sadly my local nissan dealer has Knuckle heads employed which doesnt help my situation as they are the typical" oh no you have to have one of these gaskets cause your car was built on a tuesday at lunchtime in 1988, no other part will fit it" sort of bullshit.
Thanks again
Also who makes a good turbo manifold, Just a cast job as mine is a shitty steampipe one with a 2mm hump in it and its already had the arsehole machined out of it, still working thru previous owners shit work!!
Thanks again

hey Ash,
Thanks heaps for that, was trying to figure out if a Factory Turbo gasket would withstand more boost than a non turbo gasket, But if they are different its answers the question for me.
Thanks Again

from what i remember when i pulled the head off mine. when i went to nissan they had a listing for either 2 or 3 different head gaskets for the na td42. the only difference being the thinkness.
IMO i would definately go genuine and order the thickest of the 2/3.
are u able to deal over the fone with a more helpfull nissan dealer and have it shipped to you?

The various thicknesses are to get the comp ratio spot on, and to allow for any variances in manufacturing as th piston protrudes from the block at TDC, don't want any collisions. If in doubt go the thickest, it won't hurt to be down 1/2 a point if boosted.
