Post by B.D.R »

I need some new Gauges in the Mav, so i'm looking at Speco.

no worries.

I would use VDO next time though - as we used them on the 7 and they are awesome.

ive got mechanical oil and water in my shorty and cant say anything bad about them, they are the sport-comp with black dials, but i do have 2 pro-comp (silver dial) mechanical water temp and oil pressure that are brand new in the box if your intrested, either mount in dash or get the pods

not in a 4wd but I recently fitted 4 speco gauges in a mates mini (put in a whole new dash).

I'm not sure if it's because I bought them off eBay they were shoddy or what but they are crap!
The tacho has some how flipped all the way over so it doesn't work now that took one drive to happen.
The oil temp guage doesn't register. Resistance changes from sender everything just never moves off the start. Moves to 50 degrees (start point) when you start the car but if that mini doesn't reach 50 degrees oil temp on the highway (or anywhere) I'll eat my hat.
The ammeter has done nothing but short out. It's not the wiring, it's inside the guage that shorts.
That leaves the oil pressure guage and guess what........ it works.

End of short story is we've bought all new autometer ones, paid too much for them but they work great.

Take from that what you will.

One other thing of note is that the guy we bought them off doesn't give a stuff. Says we bought them too long ago, (nearly a year admittedly) but they weren't even taken out of the packets until I fitted them a fortnight ago. The small dangers of saving money on eBay.

Just buy Autometer and you wont go wrong. Damn good looking gauges, and good quality too.

There are some cheap sites to buy them from the US.

Yes you get what you pay for.

Have got specos in the paj ATM and they work well. Have had autometer in my corolla and they worked but they did have probs. Clock stopped working randomly. Vacuum gauge had a wicked buzz in it. Oil and volts worked but the lights in the back of them burn the side out the gauge. Speco ones are working fine so far, oil pres is a bit over sensitive. Take from that what u wil etc etc.

isnt an ammeter a short i.e it should go in series with the load unlike a voltmeter which should go in parallel?
