HJ47 disc brake conversion
Hi fellas,
Just after some info on converting a HJ47 ute (81 model) to a disc brake front end. If anyone knows exactly what parts are required that would be a great help!
Cheers.

Mate of mine did this conversion. He bought the complete front hub assemblies from an LX model shorty. They were the ones that came out with the disc brake front end and power steering, 3.4l diesel motor - last model before the 70 series shape change from memory - long time ago now. Took him a weekend to swap over as he did the ball joints as well.
He had a LWB dual cab conversion ex WA mines. The disc brake front end made an enormous difference, but check the studs, maybe even change them as both sides of his fractured at different times when on the move - bit of a handful at 100klm hr and witnessed one event, a bit sickening, but all was ok in the end - just a major stuff around to fix both times. Not sure if the studs broke from fatigue or load - he had the 2H diesel and PTO winch/batteries etc up front.

Ha ha the vehicle I'm looking at doing this two is also an ex WA mine dual cab conversion!! Just reseraching it for the customer as he wants me to do it at the same time as I replace all his suspension, tierod ends, bearings etc etc, basically give it a full going over.PBBIZ2 wrote:He had a LWB dual cab conversion ex WA mines.
Some say you dont need to, but I would also look at replacing the rear brake cylinders to the ones used on disc models (drum/drum have different size rear wheel cylinders), plus using the apropriate proportioning valve.
My 60 series rebuild....

This I believe is a must the duel rear cylinders of the drum brake setup effect the pressures when changing to disks. A mate has had this very problem and trying to sort at the moment.flyology wrote:Some say you dont need to, but I would also look at replacing the rear brake cylinders to the ones used on disc models (drum/drum have different size rear wheel cylinders), plus using the apropriate proportioning valve.
