Transfer Case Leaking

Post by c110gtr »

My transfer case on my FJ40 is leaking through the two big bolts and on the Idler Shaft?
See pic below

Can I just put plumbers thread seal on the two big bolts near the edge of the TC?

And the idler shaft, can I just pull the shaft out just a tad to get to the O Ring?
How do I do this? It wont cause any issue inside the transfer case?

Thanks in advance

Probably not , I'd try a gearbox reconditioner
Manuels= 4wd,cars,bikes,guns,trucks,race cars
Automatics=washing machines,dish washers,fridges

As I may have mentioned previously, I just did this to mine. It was safe to lever the shaft out far enough to put a new O-ring on. Im a mechanic anyway so just got my o-ring off the shelf at work. I'd suggest putting some sealant of some sort on the shaft/o-ring when you slot it back in though as mine continued to leak after putting a new o-ring in.

Dont know about your other one though....

Be careful pulling that idler shaft out. I am nearly certain there is thrust washers on or near the end of it. ONLY pull it out as far as you must to replace the o ring.
