Early rangie chassis

Post by Gheto_Modz »

Just curious,
Im looking fo a early range rover chassis... pre 80's. Is there any way of an engineer telling the year from the chassis number?

Mark

PS if you have an early chassis and your in Vic let me know

From end of 1979 Land Rover went to the 17 character VIN numbers. The VIN contains the year.

Before then they used an 8 character number that doesn't have a year. But possibly Land Rover have a list.

See here http://www.lrfaq.org/FAQ.3.Chassis_Numbers.html

Im using it to go under a 56 morris minor panelvan and mounting a 253 in it. The reason for the date is for approval for SR plates as the hilux chassis I have not is 82 and they tell me its no good, must be pre 80. Its really a blessing in disguise as they are standard with a v8 and good rear suspension along with being narrow and strait front to back. bolt a mitsubishi L300 front end under it and away we go...

Will the Rangie chassis come down enough in the ride height? I assume thats a contributing factor in the L300 front end.

Are you going to post details of the project anywhere? Would be interested to follow it.
