OFFROAD EXPO 2004 (spy pics)
On Thursday Sam and I went for a drive up to check out the stages that were been built by Dave (MMM) and Alben (owner of LCMP) for the ROCKCRAWLING event that is been held there this year!
We also took up Lockless so we could let her have a play in the rocks!
When we arrived there was just a few piles of rock, but by the end of the day we had created some really awesome stages!
The EXPO attracts about 6000 people over the weekend and with the majority there to watch events like the Mud pursuit and the ROCKCRAWLING the atmosphere is going to be insane!!!!
After watching the Lockless strut her stuff Alben was in ore and is really excited about us been there for this weekend. He beleives that by the end of the First stage the word would have gotten around and there will be thousands lining up on the hill to watch us GET IT AWWNNN!!!!!! (imagine 3000 people cheering BJ on)
NOT ONLY IS ALBEN GETTING EXCITED ABOUT THIS BUT SAM AND I BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD BE THE START OF SOMETHING HUGE FOR ROCKCRAWLING IN AUSTRALIA.
So to all you out there that is thinking of going to this event, get up there YOU WON'T be disapointed!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here are some pics i took. (Compare the size of the ROCKs and ledges to the tyre on the Lockless and also to the people, the rocks are huge)
ENJOY

The best thing about this setup is that Alben (the park owner) is really keen to get this happening and is prepared to spend the $$$ to create some awesome obstacles. The numbers of people that will be there to watch us drive will be huge and they will all get a great view because its totally man made. This event will be bigger than tuff truck (spectator numbers) probably even at this first competition and I think that this is going to get real big. This is our best opportunity to bring rockcrawling out to the general 4wding public because the general public really has no idea of what our rigs are capable of and they will be blown away.
Just as an example when I parked the lockless up on top of the rocks the first time, Alben was totally amazed. He could not believe that it would be possible to drive a rig up the rock face. He was totally gob smacked. And this is a guy that has been in the hardest of hard core 4wding for the past 20 years. He could see then and there that the crowd is going to absolutely be amazed by what we can do.
So Alben is really keen and he has got the time and money and the rocks to build the most insane man made course ever. So far they have put it 2 days and have created what you see here. What they have got is by far the best terrain of any of the XRCC competitions - it is really that good. And as time goes on the course is just going to get bigger and better. The first comp is at off road expo and the next will be at mud bulls and music - both events have huge crowds.
In fact I have never driven so many hard obstacles in one session. There is just so many of them just in these little pile of rocks. Really flogged the piss outa the lockless and am really happy that I didnt really break anything except for a front shock.
This is the future of rockcrawling - its going to be massive.

well, checked out these rocks yesterday arvo, and from what i can tell its gonna be a sweeeeeet event. the spectators will have an awesome view of it............BUT, i think it'll be a bit 'sterile' compared to xrcc, where you can get right up close to the rigs, and check out all the obsticles from all angles. this is just my opinion, but i prefer the natural terrain, but this will be an awesome showcase for the sport of rockcrawling in australia
How do you figure that with 3 or so thousand people cheering US on that it will be STERILE?????
I can see your point about been up close at XRCC but how would that many people fit in a space provided like the last two????
As for seeing rigs from any angle the fact is that the Rigs will be driving over the rocks from front to back, side to side and so on , so you will still get to see all the diferent angles!
The front row is no more than 20 metres away so just make sure you get there early!
This type of event will only be held (at this stage) at EXPO and MUD BULL's the other XRCC's will still be the same. Hopefully though after everyone see's what we do at the EXPO the crowds and Competitor numbers should grow for XRCC aswell!!!!
From a Competitor (and spectator) i think this will be one hell of a comp and the ATMOSPHERE alone will be awesome!

Slowy but surely we are getting there...
Congratulations to all involved. To past spectators, sponsors, landowners, BBSs like this one, to those who are continually forging ahead not only with new and improved comps/venues, but also to those that are willing to compete, and not just the guys with spaceframe buggies or outrageous creations, but just as importantly the guy with his "semi-stock" beater/pride-and-joy giving it a go for the pure fun of it.
Yes, I think the snowball has just started rolling down the mountain.

I think man made course will be the future of the sport in Australia. Unfortunately we don't have enough terrain Australia wide. But if we can set up a few courses in a variety of states it opens the possibility for a huge increase in the sport. It also allows for different classes and for spectators to watch the events in comfort and more importantly, safety.
Safety has been one of the big worries for the US events, when you get spectators clambering over rocks and up and down cliffs to see the action all it needs is one idiot to take a tumble and sue everyone in sight for the sh*t to hit the fan. If the events can provide good viewing for everyone it will encourage more people to come alonng and get into it.
Exteme sports like skateboarding, moto cross etc are based on a central event area with plenty of viewing.
Build it and they will come
