Chassis cracked

Post by Mad Cruiser »

My 80 series Landcruiser has a few cracks where the front left coil mountss are on chassis is bending the mounts outwards.

Now i'm considering of getting both mounts and shocks remade with a stronger material this time also getting the cracks welded up.

Any advice ?

And last of all does anyone know a good chassis welding place ?

Go to your local engineering workshop. I had a crack in front of the drivers spring shackle on my old hilux and they did a good job, unfotunatly it cost me $300 just for the weld and took one guy almost all day.....

any smash repairer that repairs 4WDs will do it. you might even be able to get your insurance company to pay for it if you word your claim along the lines of 'I swerved to miss a kangaroo and hit a huge pothole at high speed and that's what started the cracks in the spring perch...'

check around your steering box too.

yeah steering box is a common one. I have known GQ's to crack there. Hilux's usually around the front spring mounts on the chassis ( shackle or eye mounts )
