OK so before someone chimes in with.....try the search function ...want to add i've been through pages and pages and now my eyes hurt!
So ive read all the posts on gas being turbo'd and the results in power and economy, and the same for diesel, but what i would like to know is has any turbo'd a straight 4.2 injected petrol engine, no gas. What was your fuel economy like after and what turbo was used....i read the gt35r is the way to go...
any help would be great

GQ tb42e petrol only no gas turbo !
Well there is good and bad news, the good is you will LOVE the power with the turbo, the bad is you will HATE the economy.
Mine is straight fuel (98 octane) and I have managed to get 19lt/100 on the highway and the worst was 27/100 offroad.
I'm doing a diesel conversion in a couple of weeks, I'm just telling myself now that I'm getting to old to be needing that much power (and that big a fuel bill) and that a diesel with be enough power. Hmmm me thinks I will miss the power alot.

We have built a TB42E SWB Maverick up in Rocky in the back shed
It was all easy enough and now there are some great companies that offer prefab'd turbo manifolds for the TB line of motors.
The GT35 with a 0.84 Exhaust housing seems to be a good thing.
We used a Wolf 3D computer with larger injectors, in the factory inlet manifold (we had to machine the fuel rail a little to make it all work)
We used a Falcon CAS (magnetic) and mounted pickups to the Flywheel (you can also use a hall effect sensor in your distributor if your so inclined) and we used a M&W ignitor with a falcon wasted spark coil pack.
We had it pretty much turn key from carb fed in two weeks.
The biggest gains are in the tune.
Make sure you take it to a really reputable shop that has experience... not just talk (there's alot of them...)
Larco just took his shorty to Fraser and reported fuel economy of 15L/100 which he was over the MOON with because it also rolled of 383HP at the rear wheels in a dyno comp just recently... and believe me (I tune it) there is PLENTY of HP left as the car has never touched the dyno before and requires alot more tune points...
And before you all scoff and say it's lean and it'll blow up.
It's done a full season of Coopers Rally, MayDay at LCMP, Mud Bulls and PLENTY of recreational thrashing! And no issues along the way.
If your realistic with ignition under accelleration you will keep it together, and that is the joy of a full tunable computer, his car is running 42 degrees ignition at cruise on the highway, and the second you touch the throttle it can drop back to 8-10 to keep detonation under control... with a distributor system your always trying to find a happy medium...
Go the tunable computer... there are heaps of great brands now... maybe work with the guy your hoping to tune it, as everyone has a brand they prefer to tune and therefore put more skills into...
I'll let you know when we get even half serious with some dyno time and the little 4.2! I reckon we'll easily crack 400RWHP which will be very nice!
Gen has it's merits too, but it will cost you similar money, not have as much HP, and don't kid yourself - a gen powered nissan will love the fuel too... HP isn't cheap! You gotta burn fuel to move 2.5T fast!
