Whats everyones thoughts on a 97 landcruiser ute petrol.I can get 1 for 6500 and was thinking maybe put gas on it.Its injected i wanted a diesel but nothing around 4 the money ive got.Are they that bad on fuel or is it the way you drive them.ITS ALSO GOT 320 000KMS

Sounds like an ok price. Provided the ute hasn't been thrashed as some tend to be. The motor is good for a few more k's but at 320 be looking out for worn valve stem seals. If you go lpg you could be looking at getting the head done soon after
Economy is possibly better than the 80 series cause the ute weights less. I get 17/14 city/hwy in my auto wagon. Not too bad imo. As mentioned it's driving behavour. send it over 3000 revs often and it will chew the fuel.
I'm with ray... much more fun to drive than the diesels, and even with the economy difference you're not much better off with the diesel when you factor in price and servicing costs.

the 4.5 petty's go pretty hard (as mentioned) i'd think by around the 400k mark you'd be looking at giving it a freshen up (depending on its history).
a mate of mine has 415k on his, been running on gas mainly and has noticed the power drop between when he bought it and 180k k's later...it still cops a hiding though!
another good example, i've pulled the head off a fzj105 at a whisker over 110k that'd been running gas since about 5k and you could still quite clearly see the hone marks from new.
gas injection will give you very comparible power to petrol, with of course, slightly less economy due to being lpg. having your cam ground to suit gas also makes a noticable difference, which can be bought along with a gas head from 'all head services' which increases life of the head as its designed to run cooler and be fuelled by lpg... and even your usual extractors and snorkel (ram air) give you a bit more right foot.
for 6500, its a good buy, but IMO there's a definite future investment into a rebuild or reco a few years down the track.

with those k's id be expecting it to be using a bit if it was still runing what the factory spec is
