Buying a late model Grand Vitara
Buying a late model Grand Vitara
Hey yall. We are lookin at a late model (06-08) Grand Vitara 2.7L v6 wagon for my wife as a daily driver + weekend toy. Have had 2 Sierras and an '88 Vitara JLX but nothin this new.
Would like sum lift (2" spring + 2" body maybe) and tyres (maybe 31's). What are these like reliability wise and ease of mods? Wouldnt mind getting a bullbar and snorkel too. Love the look of these and $$$ wise a lot of bang for buck. Cheersd, Matt.

06 Grand Vitara Prestige, 2" lift, Kumho A/Ts, ARB winch bar, snorkel, spotties. Also a Regal 2150 LSC Volva Penta 350 gsi duoprop, and a kayak ;-)
I've got an 08 diesel, too early to tell if reliability will be an issue.
As to mods, you are limited in what can be modified, both by the cars design and what the suppliers have on offer (TJM don't have anything for new GVs, ARB have springs, but no struts, and a snorkel, nothing else).
Body lift is not an option but there are several suspension kits available for up to 40 mm lift.
30" is about the biggest tyre you can fit and not everyone makes a 30".
ECB do a non winch bar, there is an alloy winch bar available from Qld but it's expensive and ARB are yet to do anything.

Do these new models not have a steel chassis to do a body lift? Saw a pic of one in the photos section with 31s looked nice :-)steve125 wrote:I've got an 08 diesel, too early to tell if reliability will be an issue.

All I really want besides lift and tyres is a nice steel bullbar and a snorkel makes it look the part.

You'll need something to protect the weeaaak front diff housing...
In 2009 they changed to 3.2ltr V6 which is supposedly better on fuel as the 2.7 was a little bit thirsty... Don't touch a 2.0L 4cyl for off road but the new 2.4L fours are ok...
The diesel is out of a renault traffic and is a well proven motor in that application only come in manul in G/V though
Pedders have put some 50mm Lifts in some for us for a surveying company we sell to.
Sadly the chassis disappeared after 2005

I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.
the 1999 SWB would be a SQ420 Grand Vitara, I'm running a 1997 SWB SV420 Vitara & it's now a weapon off road, it was kind of poxy when I bought it though & had less ground clearance than a 1st generation RAV-4

I have an 09 and have looked into getting some more height, outdoorauto in brissy have a 2.5inch lift, tough dog and iron man have kits and OME i believe have springs.
TJM have bars as does ECB.
I think outdoorauto has a decent range or bars too.
