hi everyone....

new member here and would love some help if possible.

ok here goes,

ive just bought a Nissan GQ Patrol with the following mods:

6 inch lift
king springs
rancho 9 way shocks all round
inch coil spacer
2 inch body blocks
steel bull bar
Premier Winch 10,000 pound
35 inch Mickey Ts MTZ on 15x8 sunraysia rims

now this is going to sound funny to some but unfortunately i have this small problem. i have a illness that affects my legs and the patrol is rather high for me to get into with easy......... i know some of you are saying " WHY BUY IT " well i fell in love with it and just wanted it lol !

i was wondering and after some reading..... is there somewhere i can go to get supplied and fitted a set of electric steps like on some big dollar Winnebago's or just buy some 2 inch lower springs ?????

your help will be greatly appreciated !

I would start by pulling the body lift out. But that's only 2" so it may not do it.

The thing you are asking about exists as a generic item but it probably costs a shiatload: http://www.electricstep.com/

Depending on the height you need you can get stuff like this or make it yourself: http://www.truckspecialties.com/carr_steps.htm

(these are just from google, I've never used them).

Dunno if you'd have any luck with electric steps at a bus wrecker or something.

Side steps that are also sliders are common.

You could pull out the 6" springs and put in 3-4" springs but dunno if the 35s would still fit underneath, and depending on how well the 6" lift was done there may be castor correction, panhards etc to suit.

8inch overall lift wow das huge dont go conering to hard :rofl:. I have 4inch coils and 2inch body n 35s on my gq and it works well id swap the 6inch coils for 4 inch to start with chuck a swap add up you will prob find a str8 swap. i have seen on a car steps that just go into the sliders nd jus push up to remove when u go off road. There was a massive f truck at auto salon syd a few years ago with the elec step setup your talking bout.

remove the body lift and the coil spacers, which will give you 3 inches less.

its quite alot less to have to climb, you will be suprised.

this cost you nothing and you have bits to sell.

a set of sliders will lower the first step in point by another 4 inches and should help alot.

see how you go with that then if needs be go smaller coils - chances are they are not 6 inch any more anyway and are closer to 4-5.

so it would be possible to get some 4 inch lift coils and be in the same boat.

hey guys,

thanks for the great response. ill have to take a look at the websites or even try something. i saw a set of steps for around the 700 mark S/F so thats not too bad.

the patrol is going in on wed to ARB for front and rear air lockers,snorkel,dual batteries,rockhopper gears,diff plates.

this is my very first 4WD but i have been out with other mates with there 4bies.

ive just got back from Vineyard near Windsor and had a ball...... here are a couple pics

With all that being done it should be stuff all effort for them to pull the coil spacers and body lift out. Those things add nothing but instability as long as the tyres still tuck afterwards and from your photos it looks like you have a bit of room to play with.

I won't comment on the deliberate driving into muddy holes for no reason as I know you will grow out of it once you've had to clean it a few times :)

lmao the cleaning....... tell me about it. the dude at the carlovers just shook his head in disgust. i thought he was going to come over and give a ear full but i think he stayed back a bit as im a fairly large bloke as he noticed when i got out lol :cool:

...........and replacement of brake pads, rotors, bearings, swivel hub kits, clutches, etc etc but hey if it's the only way through ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Re the lift, like others have said and know by experience, you'll get just as good performance from your suspension without a 2"body lift and 1" coil spacers if it's set up right and will be more stable too. Do you really need a 9" total lift + tyres? Most comp trucks aren't running more than 6" total lift some even less but they make up for it with big tyres so it's more stable

well made the decision to just drop the body blocks and spacers and be done with it.

na the ARB salesman didnt see me coming lol..... i just wanted something pretty much all done so i didnt want to touch it and just enjoy it :lol:

and yeah guys i understand about the mud...... i wont be doing that again until its absolutely nessasary ( the cleaning is just too much )

just having a ball at the moment !

bit of an update.....

ARB done do larger lift kits so ive gone to another company and will be changing the springs and shocks to a 4 inch.

that will solve my problems and bring it down a respectable level.

im getting it engineered in a month or so time after i save up some more coin.
