Taking leaves out of a spring pack.

Post by Meldge »

Hi Guys and Gals...

I have recently put some 60 Series rear springs into the back of a Soft Top MWB FJ73 Crusier...

Now with the weight difference, it is almost rock solid... I would like to remove some leaves but, a. Dont know how, b. Dont know which ones...

With the weight difference I have NO flex left in the rear at all, it is solid, and sliding very easily in the wet (dont get me wrong, that is fun, but not when your not ready for it...) The 60s spring pack has an extra leaf and they are a lot closer together, what should I do...

IS IT WORTH IT...

I am thinking of going a parabolic setup, but I am hearing people getting gear for around $400 bucks and it is great... I want height and body roll (flex - articulation)...

What should I do...

chatting to rosco(fj73) earlier, he has put in 2" lifted 60 series springs in. very impressed. he went for light duty rears tho

hopefully he'll post up here or could pm him

still considering this myself, sounds best option if buying new spring packs. and price to reset is fairly high (abd spring packs already 20 years old, thought would sag pretty quickly)

i took two leafs out of the rear of mine. easy as to do just take out the whole spring or release it at the shackle end as you normally do and then undo the center bolt that holds the pack together and take 2 or 3 from the bottom these ones will probably be shorter but thicker there the ones you want to get rid of.

just make sure you take the weight off the spring before you undo anything

I did it by puting the weight of the truck on stands, undoing the u bolts and center bolt and then pulling out the short leafs. why would you need to undo the shackle? or am i missing something. BTW bewere of spring warp if you take out a lot

That's all right I just pulled apart my carb to solve a misfire on acceleration only to find that it was a sticking linkage :bad-words: :bad-words: :bad-words: :bad-words:
