newbie 80 series question
guys i'm new to cruisers and have just bought an 80 series. i want to fit wider tyres than whats on the truck which is 255/85/16.
these are a good diameter but are obviously cheesecutter width. i can pick up a set of 33x12.5x15 on cruiser off set rims my question is will 15" rims go on the cruiser or will they foul the calipers hence the reason 16's have been fitted to the truck?
it's a 92 fzj80.
cheers,
mike

as far as i am aware they went from 15 inch rims to 16 inch rims post october 92 so you might no be able to run the 15 inch rims as they will foul on the rear brakes. apparently the 15 inch rims will clear the front brakes but not the rear brakes. also you can tell if you have the wider flares as when they went to the 16 inch rims they went to wider flares
if you want a set of rims to get it right i have some 15x8 cruiser offset rims with worn out 33's on them if someone wants to offer me some money for them via a PM

They changed from 15" inch to 16" in 94. 15" rims will fowl on both front and rear calipars, while you can grind the calipars to make them fit it is highly illegal and will void insurance. Depending on how deep ya pockets are you can fit pre 94 calipars on a post 94 car which will give enough clearance to run 15" but it will need engineering.
its not 94 its earlier than thatJonezy01 wrote:They changed from 15" inch to 16" in 94. 15" rims will fowl on both front and rear calipars, while you can grind the calipars to make them fit it is highly illegal and will void insurance. Never understood the big deal with a 15" rim? you have an extra .5" in sidewall and unless its a bias tyre then the sidewalls are weaker anyway. And bias tyres are readily available in 16" sizes also.
There isnt that much difference in the cost to warrant it imo, especially if the sidewall strength is a factor.
