My dramas, Longfield 30 spline CVs
So I went for a bit of a drive in my Lux today and after mucking around in a few drains and rocks etc, a block from my house, I got a bit stuck
While I was trying to reverse off some rocks I noticed I had no drive to the front right wheel.
Oh well it gave me a chance to use the rear winch for a recovery and it worked spot on.
So I rip into the hub when I get home and find a smashed outer hub gear, no big drama.
While I was at it I figured I would get into the knuckle for a look see and to replace the swivel bearings as they felt a bit tight to move...
Well the upper swivel bearing had collapsed, No biggie, cheap easy fix...
So I pull the knuckle completely off and pull out the 30 spline chomo longfield.
Now heres the interesting part.
The CV is so tight that when I put it in the vice I have to bash it with the rubber mallet bloody hard to get it to move!!!
No wonder my steering has been shite the CV is farken allmost seized solid!
So has anyone else had a similar problem?
Is it a warranty issue? The CV doesnt appear broken just tight as hell!
I havent pulled the other side yet but I will.

Something similar happened to a friend of mine 2 years ago (?),
but Bobby was there and replaced the CV.
I guess it's worth disassembling the CV and see how's inside.
Not sure it goes under warranty (not being broken).
Did you buy direct from Longifield or in Oz through a vendor?

Yeah well lubed with lithium moly grease.Michele wrote:He usually wants the CV first to check it out...
I'd disassemble the CV and have a look, then try and PM Bobby.
I presume the CV was well lubricated, correct?
Before I do anything I think I will pull the left side CV out and check t.

There was no indication that it had a swivel bearing problem until I pulled off the steering arm.bazzle wrote:Your collapsed top bearing probably didnt help by putting side loads on cv.
Bazzle
I reckon it was all held in place and working ok untill I pulled it apart anyway.
