Hey guys my name is Ben i bought the jabber of dean a short time ago.
I have taken it out half a dozen times now and I love it
the only thing that has gone wrong is the motor has lost all of it's power
and is now blowing alot of blue smoke...
So I was thinking about an engine conversion got any ideas???

just throw in a magna engine i done it its a bit of a ball breaker but its the cheapest and most reliable way...i looked into everything and i think this is the best way keep it origional or you will be forever spending money that you will never get back

Yea not really thinking about puting another mitsi motor in was thinking ls1 , inected 5.0 or a 3.8 v6 commodore motor... i am thinking more about the 3.8 v6 as they are cheap and they are everywhere has anybody done or heard of these conversions being done? if so would be interested in how they went...

Hi Ben, the Jabber deserves more power mate.
There are several permutations :-
- performance rebuild the 3.0V6 bored out to 3.2 (it had 102,000 when I bought it off an Asian dude who never took it off road)
- install 3.5/3.8V6 SOHC
- install some other non Mitsu motor
My choice was going to be a 3.5 SOHC or if I could find one a 3.8 SOHC.
I know the 3.0V6 box bolts directly up to the 3.5/3.8 block and you can still use the 3.0 clutch. Later on you can always upgrade to the 3.5 5sp and fit 3.15's to the larger t/case. With the 5.29's and a tweeked 3.8 it will turn the 35"s no probs.
The only change required is modified engine amounts plus the electricals.
Depends on your ultimate budget I guess.
Do you plan to convert the rear to full floaters ?
If you plan to offroad it hard you WILL break the 28 spline rear axles on the 35"s.

hello ben and to all,
so ben rang me the other night and had said that the jabber wasnt running real good. would hit 60 and then run out of pep. The only time i can relate to this is when i had my shorty and one of the leads had fallen apart and was only running on 5 cylinders. It sounded the same over the phone, and seeing as i had never had a problem with the paj we didnt think it could be too much.
ben rang me last night and said hed done a comp test and no.6 had ZERO compression, could not get it to read whatsoever.
So i guess this is where hes at. What to do, what to do. I never had an issue with the engine in the jabber, its only got 189, 000kms on it so i never thought of swapping it over. Its definitely not the biggest powerhouse, but i found that it did what i needed aqnd returned pretty good figures considering~12-13L/100.
Now that the engine is rooted, i guess ben is looking for alternatives. He has said he can it fully rebuilt for $3,800, but i guess hes looking at options and best bang for buck.
If anyones got ideas, post em up, i suggested the 3.5 SOHC over the phone, and then came on here and saw that suggested. Bens previously had a LS1 in a VK so knows them pretty well, but i think was thinking the 3.8 commo engine for $$$. im pretty sure the rock art paj from tuff truck ran the commo engine, and then theres a couple rangie v8s, theres some other v8 paj on youtube, but yeh if it helps at all bens just trying to get the jabber going again and if possbile get more power for the same dollars...

Yeah I still think the 3.8 SOHC is the go I'd be looking around for a wrecked NP so you can snaffle the donk, ancilliaries, wiring harness ecu etc. In fact you maybe able to score a front cut with the 5sp auto and larger t/case.
It will virtually be a bolt in except for the engine mounts and will still be uniquely Mitsi.
Any other non Mitsi conversion is going to cost a lot more paticularly mating it to the 5sp V5MT1.
It all depends on the budget and how much work you can do yourself and mates helping out.

Thanks frank i rang that wreckers but they want to much money...
I have now left the jabber with my mate next door to my work
and we have come up with the idea to use the same motor rebuild
it and put a nice little snail on one side either t3 or t04 turbo not sure yet
cause we want it to make full boost from say 1300 to 4000 rpm
what do you think about that combo??? i think it should be interesting

Some guys have discussed at length doing the 3.0 V6 DOHC twin turbo conversion from the Mitsi GTO (you know that two door thingy).
Would be pretty much a bolt in job as it's a 6G72 after all.
