newsletter

Post by Hobzee »

All those on the mailing list should have received their first newsletter today. If you missed out refer to www.ironmancliffhanger.com.au or email navrun@navrun.com.au

Most timely things at present ....

#If you leave it a few more weeks the entry price goes up end of March.
#So far I have spoken to 5 teams who said they will wait for a "cheap" late minute entry by buying someones old entry - Gee I hope there will be enough to go around....
#There will only be about 200 campers on site. All other spectators will have to stay in town - so I wouldn't be leaving spectator packages to the last minute either (but hey you can have pizza every night if you stay in town).

scrutineering

Post by Hobzee »

Hi Guys and gals,

At OBC about 2 weeks ago the CCDA scrutineers were particularly thorough finding many faults with stuff normally covered by log book. I think it's great to see safety levels improve. But I want to warn the cliffhanger dudes to make sure you fully comply and dont have issues in Cobar.

At OBC they were particularly concerned about
roll bar mounts,
roll bar construction material,
6 point cage inside utes to not have bends in the rear stays and if so then side intrusion bars needed internally (with sill rails).
tow points to be rated and if not marked then make sure you bring certification to show the rating.
kill switch to shut down engine while revving at say 2500rpm.

I'm sure there are many other things they look for - just dont assume because you have done previous events that your rig will comply.

For this reason we might be hosting scrutineering in the town of Cobar itself on your way to property - Cars can be left on trucks and trailers. This enables you to get things fixed in town without a 100klm return trip. We have to make arrangements with CCDA and with local 4WD shop in Cobar for venue, etc - stay tuned for more details.

But in meantime get out your CCDA vehicle specs and make sure you comply. If you have any doubts pls call CCDA or ask someone who went through the OBC process.

But remember one thing - It's good to have a consistent high level of safety in cars and I was surprised at what rocked up to Broken Hill for OBC and think CCDA are on the right path - we just need to work well together.

Hi all

at the out back challenge I had a fire and won't get my truck ready for cliffhanger now and have already paid entry. I am looking for some one to take my postion at a very heavily reduce cost I would be happy with 50% back from the entry fee. Please let me know asap and we can talk.

We are a third of the way to finish setting up the stages. There is some very exciting stuff.
The Sun Night creek run has long sandy stretches, tight stuff and a rocky gorge stretch and then a 5 klm blast back to the finish along a track.
Sun Day stage is straight up the side of a hill, bottom to top with boulders to boot.
Rally stage has tight track and then 6k's of open sweeping curves through the bush. You do that loop twice
1 Nav stage is in tight scrub - he who cares the least for his car will win.
1 Nav stage is in open terrain - fast 10 wpt blast to see who is fastest navigation.
Creek run is awesome - rocks seem to go forever (at least at our slow pre-drive rate). Got my carpet wet - see I do pre-drive. That one is not in it. was deeper than I thought it would be.

Gotta Go - Rudes is getting cranky with me .. :agrue:

I have some pics and will get Rudes to post them up for me. I still cant nut out how.

Anyway today we set up a Creek Run, A rock garden stage (bring on the Bastard Child - if he doesn't win this stage then agreed, you can do what you want to him), a nav with a nasty winch climb at the end and a motorkhana right next to camp with lots of jumps.

I managed to evict our mouse tennant from my site office house today. I discovered that Rudi doesn't like mice and spiders ... ;)

Storms are all around us at present with just a tease of rain. Lots of Lightning.

Tomorrow Rudes has given me the day off so I'm off to town to see what sort of trouble I can get into...

To those thinking about maybe coming up to spectate - DO IT! This is going to be a great one - I can feel it.

I could do with some fun ... Hobzee
