LJ and SJ
lol
LJ are 2 stoke engines - starting at the LJ10 (359cc), then 20 (more horsepower, same engine), 50 (539cc) and finally the LJ80 (797cc).
SJ's (Sierra) followed the LJ and superceded it with 1L and 1.3L engines which also gave us the NT and WT (although theres a crossover of 1.3L NTs in 1988)

Alien, that is a rather poor and generalised attempt at explaining it....! , yeah and wrong about the 2 stroke part too
LJ
in Australia we sort of got 3 versions (more, but some are too quirky to matter right now). LJ's run tiny drivelines, and centred diffs front and rear.
LJ50 (3 cylinder 2 stroke, very narrow track)
LJ80/81 (4 cylinder, 4 stroke 800cc, narrow track)
LJ80/81 Stockman (same as LJ80/81, but with stronger axles, bigger bearings, and different front clip)
SJ (Sierra)
square body, offset diffs, and loaded with luxury features!!!
1Litre (steel vertical bar grill, 1L motor, lower gearing, narrow track)
I don't have a picture of a 410
NT (plastic grill, bigger sized 1.3 diffs, 1.3L engine, narrow track. Same as Holden Drover).
(this car has a 1Litre bonnet without a hump though...)
WT (wide track, small cosmetic difference over previous)
Coily (coil suspension, chain transfer, bling styling..., sort of wider track)

Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.

The primary difference, the LJ10 was air cooled and the LJ20 was water cooled.alien wrote:LJ10 (359cc), then 20 (more horsepower, same engine)
In the Suzuki Club of NSW there is quite a renaisance with LJ's at present. By July 1, will be looking to have historic rego in place.

Chris
Thats 3cyl 's car
he put the LJ80 bonnet on it.
I know about the variations on different model Lj50's and the 10 and 20's and the different type SJ410's and lots of other bits and pieces, but I decided to keep it reasonably simple , just focusing on the main types and differences present in Australian models

SJ410 1.0 litre NT (note the metal grill)
Drover(easily ID by square headlights and horizontal grill)
NT springs come off the chassis rails
WT springs are outboarded from chassis rails

not to mention the mg410 suzuki's or maruti's whatever you want to call them.
MG410 - w/t with 1ltr motor, 4spd, 4.1 diffs, 1ltr grill, longer wheel base, fibreglass back section and roof, available in either styleside ute tray, or trayback's which were cut down to suit in vic upon arrival from india.

pretty sure they were all 4spds in oz but they are identical on the exterior and the 1.3 5 spd internals can be swaped into it to make it a 5spd.
Even the yoke at the input shaft is the same, but tailshaft flange and diff flanges are different bolt pattern but can be swaped with 1.3 flanges
