hey guys
i uses to work at a nissan dealership and i will only ever use genuine
theres muiltple setups for td42's
GQ's use 2 X15208-w1120au (which is good cause i know someone that sells in boxes of 24 for a really good price )
really late GQ's and GU's (n/a & TI) use 2 x 15208-43g00au's
and GU's (turbo non intercooled between 00 and 02) use
1 x 15208-43g00au and 1x 15208-20n10 ( this one has the valve in it and has a differnent thread the the 43g00)

now nissan filters have 2 colours blue and grey
blue ones are aussie made and are the better of the two
grey ones are imported
but the problem is you can get any of ther above part numbers in blue or grey you only find out when you open up the box (frustrating)
hope this helps
cheers

Do you have a 2003 or later copy of FAST available for offsite backup?

Cutting to the point most of the filters had crap drain back valves and were very different in size. The only filter with a decent valve that had a sealing "bead" was the Z503. the Filter media was also very strong and they are specified for turbo engines. Some filters I chopped up had media that would disintegrate in your fingers. One even had a center cone that missed the stamping process and would virtually let no oil through !
I didnt chop up a donaldson filter but would now use nothing else other than Z503. My 20 cents..
did you do an autopsy on the Fleetguards out of interest Dick?
Yes I did, they are very solid and well made but I still had some issues with the drain back valve.

Hi,

This might be of interest for some of you looking into the Donaldson P169071.

Some good pictures of one cut open in p.2 ...

just been doing some checking on Ryco oil filters, these all have the same thread but different diameters and lengths
model-seal dia-dia-length
Z9-70-94-142=ford
z145a-63-82-102=3.0 petrol GQ
z503-70-94-127=one of the 4.2TD filters
z170-70-94-99=4.2 petrol carby GQ
z115-70-94-142=4.2 diesel GQ

so looks like i can use a Z9 on my 4.2TD and my 4.2P.

I cross referenced a Z503 on the Donaldson website but the filters that turned up at work were half the size of the Nissan ones so I wasn't too keen to use them. What Donaldson part numbers are people using on their TD42s? Our Nissan dealer gives us a shit discount so I'm keen to change brands.

I used Donaldson oil on my TD42Ti the part No is P557780 2 0ff because mine runs two of the same. The best way is to crossreference factory No to aftermarket.

Best filer i ever used was Puralator filter for my TD42,

They had the best anti drain back valve i have ever seen, the oil light went out in less than a second on cold start

fatassgq wrote:Don't know if it has been discussed before but I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed a difference using standard nissan oil filters on a diesel as compared to something like ryco or similar.

Reason I ask is that I used to have rycos and thought that this time I would replace with a more expensive original oil filter.

Well now on cold start up the oil light stays on for heaps longer than it used to leading me to believe that the nissan filters have a shithouse anti drain back compared to others!???
With the ryco it used to go out very quickly but now with the nissan it worries me as it stays on for a good few seconds longer

Anyone else had this happen?
There are no leaks or anything and once going oil pressure is as it should be.

Cheers
Brian
why not just stick to the ryco filters, I have never had a drama with them, think there great, not expensive, and as you say light goes off very quickly,
