Driving lights

I've got a set of Hella driving lights mounted to the bullbar. They orginally ran off a switch to a relay which activated the lights independently. However the relay contained a fuse which continuously blew fuses until the relay was buggered. I replaced the relay with a new one but it doesn't use a fuse. Now the driving lights won't run off the switch but come on with the high beam. Can anyone suggest a possible solution as I would prefer the spotties to operate independently.

Usually difficult to diagnose these type of things over the forum. The best advise, apart from going to an auto-eleccy, is to re-wire the thing with better wire etc.

I think it's illegal to not have the extra driving lights working only on high beam That is they only come on when high beam is activated.

Driving lights legally can only be used with high beam activated, but also must have a switch so that they can be turned off and on when high beam is on. sounds like the system in your car is jammed on, so the switch on the relay in permenanly allowing current to the relay switching terminal. that means that when high beam is turned on the relay is also activated, either the switch or wireing is most likely the problem, but as was already said, diagnosing these problems over the forum is pretty hard.
