Well, RRC or P38 then. Or a disco.
This is not legal advice.

My vote would be a well serviced disco or RRC.

have you thought about a diesel R9 rodeo. Reliable, reasonably comfortable, and won't rattle like a GQ and heaps better value for money than a hilux (and shit on them power wise)
Even a petty one (which would be cheaper) would be ok.

Could probably only lift one 2 inches (+ body lift) but that would get 33's under it I reckon.

Id save another 5-8k, and be patient, and buy something someone has already fixed the bits on.

If you look around you will find an ok 80 in that price bracket, maybe even early factory TD.
Supercharged 80 SOLD - "OPERATION SANDY" now in effect.

would have to be a solid axle digger, so scrap your brumby or whatever it was :P

Probably not keen for an 80 series either to be honest. Too big for my needs.

for everyone saying check out disco's or RR's, I kinda like them, but it would be too much of a PITA getting parts etc. And also, poms can't make cars for shit. Except Aston's.

so solid axle, and not as big as an 80. so that cuts out Gq's as well and probably R.R size wise.

is the sierra too small? i would never have thought it but maybe disco is the way for you to go... maybe
*there's a rock, drive over it :) there's a bigger rock, drive over it  there's an even bigger rock, oops broke it  Upgrade broken bit :bad-words:

You can buy a post 97 XJ for around 6-8K
2" rubicon budget lift/shocks, 31's

Good match of on and offroad performance.

Same or better economy than GQ or 80Series

Heaps of used parts available for upgrades.

Get a suzuki sierra or equivalent. As long as you can put up with the lack of space they are awesome cars.

If patrol/80 series is too big and you want solid axle you could only really look at a Jeep, and Jeeps are shite. Sounds to me like nothing really meets your needs.

I've got a budget of $8,000.

Write what you'd get and why.

Me - I'm thinking a cheap TJ Wrangler.. Easy to get parts for, simple structure, easy to lift etc.

G'day there DE-LUX, sounds like you've already have in mind what you really want but just want to make sure of what people think, well there isn't a bad 4wd they've all good till they bloody brake and cost you money. TJ are simple to get parts and heaps and sometimes cost depending on what you want, raising is simple but expensive like th "SYE" you would of learnt by now , TOYOTA & NISSAN are simple and cheap to lift and so on. I've owned toyota nissan all sorts and liked them all and i even owned a bloody LADA NIVA surprise surprice dont knock them the bloody thing went well and comfy. Depends on what you going to do with your 4wd if your going to comp it go to work or just go off road having some fun. Owning a 4wd is like "LOVE" the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

HOPE YOU FIND ONE.

Yeah, but they don't rust..
They come from the factory with an anti-rust self oiling undercarage.......
courtesy of rear main, sump gasket, T/C seals, pinion seals....
