Just a quick question, I've broken a cv in the front diff. Is is ok to keep driving in 2WD. I plan to replace the whole front end in the short term with my spare rocky so damage isn't a issue but I need to go on a 200-km trip and the Rocky is the only transport I have. I'm talking freeway use only.
Thanks in advance. (the broken cv has had an adverse effect on the camber as well, but may be the boulder I went over)

broken cv

Recently I've noticed a clunky noise when pressure is put on or taken off the drive. I'm guessing that's a cv. Sorry not really mechanically inclined but I'm tryin to learn. Can somebody please give me an idea of $$$ and what's likely to happen if I can't get it fixed soon. It's my daily drive.

I'm guessing to drive a Feroza by your user name, I wouldn't know how much a mechanic charges but just ahve a go yourself over a long weekend with a buddy or 2. It can't be that hard.

i replaced my cv boots and its a time consuming job but its not too hard. i will give a few pointers. use the manual but it pretty much just goes that u dismantle the axle using logic.
clearly mark the positions of the bits when your pulling off the hub. dont let it pop apart either because you dont want to have to work out how it works. you need a massive allen key. i cut mine off a stanly kit one and put it in a wrench. i replaced the allen key bolts with normal ones at this stage
use zip ties to keep the brakes out of the way
get some plier like things for removing those little lock rings. You need replacements for some of them. the internal ones are, i think available from bearings places. damage them as little as possible to avoid this. part of the cv is held together with an internal one thats a pain in the arse to remove and sux to put back in
the lock nuts on the axle come apart with gentle hammering from a screwdriver and hammer. do them back up tight but not too tight. the manual says you need a tool. you dont. i got stuck here for ages
you will have to pull the axle out probs. use leverage for this and to get it back in. help is handy
good luck
