1hz to 1hdfte conversion in 100 series
my 98 100 series cruiser is fitted with a 1hz and dts turbo, Juts wondering how easy it is to fit the 1hdfte or even 1hdt, what other mods will need to be done computer/ wiring, gearbox ect. Anyone with any info would be a great help.
My Guess is heaps of changes!
The 1HZ FTE motor is drive by wire - no cable from the accelerator so I guess if your motor is not like this you will need to get the entire wiring loom from a wreck including the ECU, it may be you just need to isolate this section of the loom and overlay the existing wiring with the extra wires in the cab.
A few questions I would like to know if and when you start this, the ECU what numbers are on the ECU, my 78 Series has the same motor with a few changes, the 100 series has the Cruise control integrated with the ECU - this is an option I would like to have.
Another item is the Turbo, my 90 Series Prado had a computer controlled Turbo, my 78 Series has the plug but it's not being utilised, I wonder if it is in the 100 series.
Good luck.

hi i had done 3 1HD FTE conversions 2 79 series ones and 1 100 series one
your best bet is because you already have a hunded series put a 100 series one in they are much more powerful than the 79 series 1hdfte or 80 series 1hdft also if you want you can run a really nice 4 speed or 5 speed auto
the best and most rewarding way is do a loom swap from an ifs gxl that way u get cruise and all the other factory fruit
i have done the looms before for the conversions if you did wanta stand alone loom made so u can run your existing loom
if you can dont settle for the 79 series engine its noit just the intercooler that gives it the extra power there are many internal and external diferences
i have the 100 series one in my touring 80 series its a pearler
i did the whole conversion myself
the trickyest bit is the wiring but that is no problem for me as that what i get paid to do for a living
pm me if you need any more info
i will be back in aus in march and available to make looms as required

the engine wi bot up to your existing gearbox and will bolt in using the 1hz mounts and sumpgutlux44 wrote:thanks for the info thashlux, what about mounting the engine? will it bolt straight in and will my gearbox bolt up to it?
i an guessing u have a manual is yours a full time or part time model?
you would be best putting a petrol or 80 series manual and if u have part time u will have to get a partime kit or find one from a povo pack you can use the bellhousing from an 80 series with 1hz
the gearbox u have now is the r series box and is not as strong as the H series that came out in the petrols, factory TD and all 80 series

Question for thems that may know.
Front transfer case seal - 78 or 100 series Toyota, how easy is it to change?
Someone from work suggested it was just a matter of removing the front uni coupling flange and the seal can be removed from there?

Your car has currently got the r series box in it, altho it will bolt straight up id be tempted to do it right and run a h series box that comes behind all the factory turbos.
