Nearly finished the turbo conversion on my TB45 need some help on fueling. (No lpg)

Ive spoken to a couple of tuners in the brisbane area and got two different scenarios. Hopefully someone else has been here before and can give some advice on what worked for them. Tuners are completely independant and i did not tell them about the other tuners suggestions.

Tuner 1: Best option is complete standalone engine management system but if your on a budget (thats me) TB45 will handle around 6psi boost without modifying internals but you will have to upgrade your injectors to around 600cc. Tuner will then fit piggyback ecu and tune

Tuner2: Normally fit a decompression plate and run 6 to 8 psi. Did not recommend upgrading the factory injectors but instead get a second set of 6 injectors installed on a seperate rail and then use a fuel (only) management unit to fire injectors underboost. This way you will maintain factory tune, idle cruising etc which you wont get with big injectors


Im leaning towards option 1 because i think it would be a cleaner install and the piggyback probably has more flexibility then just a fuel management system. Has anyone had experience with either of these methods and can provide some feedback?

If anyone has upgraded their injectors what sort did they use (Im hoping not to have to make a new rail etc)

Ive read a lot of posts on the forum but most of the builds i find are on lpg.

im doin a tb42 petrol turbo biuld atm no gas. Im going to run a stand alone ecu because mine was carby. And ill be using a low impedence top flow 1200cc nissan skyline gtr injectors. the up side of running two smaller injectors to one bigger is the spray pattern at idle/low duty cycle remains good. Big singles u tend to not idle under 1200 rpm. Id go option 1 though for ease and price.

madness watch your piston rods, go to tb 42 rods or get h beam rods for it, theres been a couple of nasty exits of pistons on the tb45s when boosted

I'd be going a full after market ECU, they are cheap enough these days.

A piggy back sysytem will work, but it is half arsing it, do once do it right.

A 600cc injector is quite large for only low boost, and moderate power levels, a 600cc injector is good for around 550hp :shock:

Have a look at MICROTECH, they are relativly cheap, but there is some big powered Cars, runing these ECU's

if you can afford it, full aftermarket like a microtech or vipec etc.

that way you can run direct fire ignition and fuck off the distributer.

Keep an eye out on ebay good ecu can had there for a lot less money than new. Would not recommend the second fuel rail way of doing things. If one fuel rail fails the engine can continue to run. Very lean however which can result in exspensive engine damage.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

There are 3 very quick TB45E Turbo GQ's in Central Qld

2 of them run AUTRONIC computers, tb42 rods both make over 300hp.
The fastest one runs a Microtech and makes 370rwhp. :twisted:

I was going to run twin bosch 044 pumps into a surge pot with Sard 800cc injectors and a Sard rising rate fuel pressure regulator.
Runnig a Garret GT3540 max of 20psi boost!
Running factory compression getting the turbo upto boost faster!

Best thing about aftermarket computers I have heard is that you get rid of most of the painfull electrics!

You can get a good computer set up for around $3000 wired up!
Dont hold back, Limiter is there for a reason!!!

New style injectors are very efficient, I have a customer with an FG XR6T who just got around 800 klms per tank on a recent trip to Sydney with 660cc injectors, they work effectivly at as little as 1.0ms injectin time. Don't waste your time trying to fit a second rail and injectors. Stock injectors will run out at 5psi. You can run a piggy back ecu that powers an additional injector or two(mounted in the intake). A single 660cc injector will make about 100 HP. Alternativly fit an aftermarket ECU, Wolf make a plug in, Haltech works well, we use an E11 on our built engine that make 385 rwkW with 800 cc injectors. The fuel economy relates to the mass, aerodynamics and rolling resistance of the vehicle. Tuning will only get you so far. #7 inch tyres, roof racks, big lifts abd so on are unfortunatly the enemy of economy.

i'm guessing its manual? cheapest option is e manage or nisstune (think they do them) stock injectors are good for 6-8 psi with a 35/40 snd the engine can handle up to 15 psi. I ran 5 psi with standard ecu.

p.s. as a general rule, on a six cylinder, your injector size is equivalent to possible flywheel horse power. eg, 600cc injectors can flow up to 600 flywheel horse power.
