Hey all,
I have a series 1 2L diesel and want to know if a 3L head or 2L II head fit?
Or is it a different block?
I have a cast iron head that is cracked and can't find another.
Cheers
Dan

I thought the L (2.2) was the first design and the early 2L had the same setup. After bout 1990 (not sure of date) the later 2L (2.4), 3L (2.8) & 5L (3.0) used the same later design.
The blocks castings are the same, tho have some different machining (bore size, etc.). I would agree with tweake if you swapped everything to match up it would work.

yer the 2l series 2 will mate with the 3l, as doug said but the early 2.4's won't
yes all the timing gears are the same but the belts are different between earl 2l and series 2 2l/3l, the 2l ser2 and 3l have a different tensioner, injector pump and cam gears etc are identical though, so you would use the 2l belt.
Im also pretty sure the early models cam timing mark was 180 degrees out from the later models mark, but thats no big deal spin it by hand as you should anyway before starting it and you'll soon work it out if its 180 out, i could be wrong about that just check.
I would imagine there should be a fair few early 2l heads around though, i just threw one out that was fine but noone wanted it haha.
By the time you buy a 3l head which i dont imagine would be cheap if you could find one, and change all the crap over imo it would be quicker and alot easier just to buy a 3l and throw it in.
