Sqeeling noise in Gq wagon
Sqeeling noise in Gq wagon
I have a 89 GQ wagon thats has a squeeling noise that comes and goes, sounds like its coming from the back.
Sounds kinda like a stone in the brakes but ive replaced all the roters and pads and given it a good clean and found nothing.
Starting to think it might be the wheel bearings but im not sure.
Has anyone had any rear wheel bearings go, If so did they make a noise or anything.
Only other thing i can think of is a uni in the tailshaft but they seem to be fine on inspection.
Any help would be apreciated..
Cheers

Definatly not tyre smoke
Its not the handbrake.
Not the tyres rubbing.
Its not the springs squeeking.
Brake pad squeal shims?? Not sure
Seems to happen after i drive for 10 15 mins and somtimes starts if i hit a bump in the road, It is very random.
It started about 12 or more months ago and started bearly noticable and has slowly increased to the point were its easily heard and annoying
Since it started i have: Changed front brake rotors and pads. DIY
Changed rear brake rotors and pads. DIY
Done 2" body lift. DIY
Fitted 3" efs suspension lift (Coils, Shocks, Castor bushes, Brake bias bracket, reverse rear taishaft) Done by ON TRACK.
Fitted 35" tyres. ON TRACK
Cant think of anything else ATM.
Cheers

ON TRACK could not tell me what it was.If you're unable to specify where the noise is coming from then maybe you should take it to a mechanic
And also took it to OL and they were very helpfull (came for a drive and even got under it and removed tailshaft and checked diff ect) but they coul not tell me exactly what it was, they also suspect rear wheel bearings but cant confirm until they pull it apart..
I lost my job 2 weeks ago and cant afford to replace things for no reason at the moment otherwise i would just get them replaced to rule them out..
Cheers

Wheel bearings tend to make a low rumbling sound when they goTommie wrote:I have a 89 GQ wagon thats has a squeeling noise that comes and goes, sounds like its coming from the back.

Here's another thought, I lost the spring pads ( rubber rings on upper spring mount where spring sits) last time I was up L'cruiser park. Drove me nuts driving back home with the squeaking as the suspension moved.
Again they are easy to check and replace. I bought some of those fancy poly ones for $30 ea

Pulled out the rear axles this arvo (in the rain)Passanger side was fine but driver side was fairly dry and with slow turning of the housing i could feel a few bumps (even though there was no slop or play in it) so i greased it up and put it back together, when i go for a long drive i will see how it goes.
If the noise is gone or quieter ill know what it was and get the bearings done.
Stay tuned....
Cheers.

i had this problem on my old gq squealing randomly. it turned out to be the rear wheel bearing. pulled axel out and couldnt even get the nut off. i just went the the wreckers and got another axle with bearing already on. bolted it up and away i went. i think it only cost around $100 for the one side. not much demand for nissan axles so the wrecker was happy to get rid of it.
GU td42 ute with go fast bits and go futher bits
thats what id be doing if u dont really want to be spending money at the moment - think it would have to cost close to a grand (parts and labour) to do rear wheel bearing properly. i picked up a complete side (half axle, hub, brake calliper etc.) for 180 from the wreckers after i snapped all but 1 wheel stud off - back LHS. 6 bolts onto diff housing and brake line, bleed brakes...done.gu town wrote:i had this problem on my old gq squealing randomly. it turned out to be the rear wheel bearing. pulled axel out and couldnt even get the nut off. i just went the the wreckers and got another axle with bearing already on. bolted it up and away i went. i think it only cost around $100 for the one side. not much demand for nissan axles so the wrecker was happy to get rid of it.
