Maxxis Mudzillas - anyone used them?

I've been offered a cheap(ish) set of Maxxis Mudzillas in 31x11.5. Probably a little wider than I was looking for, but I've been considering them. Anyone had any experience with this tyre?

Tim do a quick search in the general tech section, there are tyre bibles in there with 1st hand feed back on may brands.

I think you will find that they will rub on your front springs when turning, unless you put stops in or run spacers.

I though they were pretty good.

Need to air them down alot on a zook and they will measure in alot less than 31.

Id like to know why you think they are crap

i see the width being your main problem mate unless you have spacers or some decent offset rims.Hit springs at lock and also on the shock mount/tower.

But i think they look like a cool tyre,im sure they would work quite well and if the moneys right :armsup: .have no experience with them tho.

I watched a lwb ruf with near new 33 mudzillas trying to drive a wet red clay hill in gembrook that I drove on my swampers with ease another mate drove with 1/2 worn 31 mongrel recaps and patrol drove on simex also with ease.
now these new mudzillas were aired down (to under 10 psi) and were clogged shitless and struggling to hold a basic line up the hill.
the bloke running them in fact sruggled on anything that resembled shiny clay.
in the slop they seemed passable and ok on rock and dry stuff but I still woundn't rate them.
85 high roof 1.3, 6.5 tc, air lockers,ruf and 34 swampers. yep its an ugly pos.

i had them on my zook and they were the best thing going you could let them down to nothing at all and you could not stall or stop it on mud rocks and sand

Cheers for the comments. I don't think clearance will be an issue - I have WT diffs on a NT chassis, so my spring perches are mounted further inboard. But 11.5" does still seem a bit wide for a 1.3 to be spinning.

Im running them on WT chassis and they do rub, but no worse than what my Simexs did. Im finding them a great tyre, but i havent had them long enough to comment on wear. My Simexs lasted ages so hopefully these will too.

i have seen them in action once on a vit.

they worked great traction wise on dry rocks and loose dirt.

only problem was the width. even the owner agreed they were too wide for a zook.

I have yet to try them on serious shale, but the Simex's were absolute dogs in shale so hopefully these will be better.

they are an exact copy of the micky thompson baja claw. i had the baja claw, exact same size too, on my wt sierra with 15x8 rims and i loved them. just scraped at full lock but only minor. width was fine.

they are soooooo durabale too and take a flogging on sharp rocks. they are slipery on the street when it rains thou.


id use them again and they look mean as. they are the most aggressive legal tyre u can get to drive on the road.

Wow... there are so many things wrong with this comment.

They are nothing like claws. quick glance they might look the same but they are designed for totally different terrain and the tread is very different.

Bias tyres are road legal if they are speed and load rated.... MOST of them are...

There are plenty of tyres that meet legal requirements that I would consider more aggressive. Different states have a minimum "speed rating" for tyres. The speed rating is written on just about every tyre type I know (I think its been said on here before that swampers are not speed rated or something?).

Even my Silverstone MT-117 Extremes are speed rated (to 110 or 120km/h only I think). They don't meet the minimum legal requirement for QLD, but the size is illegal anyway :roll: . They would however be legal in some other states.

If you mean radials, there are still plenty of tyres that would be at least as aggressive as claws... Some more-so (admit-ably "aggressive" is a somewhat subjective term).

Point being, "most" commercially available tyres are legal, so long as you pick one that meets load rating and size that suits your vehicle. Most of us fail on the 2nd requirement there :D
