a440f auto box from 60 series how strong??
how strong are these autos and do they manually lock in gear
they are pretty tough. you won't break one unless you putting serious power though it. then you might start wearing the clutches prematurely
You can manually select gears. the shifter has 4 forward positions: d, 3, 2 and 1. there's a lockup convertor on 4th and 3rd.
the fluid changes are probably 60 or 80 thousand but if you do any amount of offroad/towing/sand driving the fluid needs to be changed more often. like 30 or 40k. It should also be done earlier if you put more power though it.

The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.
auto
Yeh these are really tough. I had one in a 60 with a 3F carby. It would always manually shift and stay in whatever gear I selected - even at speed. When climbing steep road hills I could overtake my mates in GQ patrols - they hated it. But could be done by shifting down and revving higher. Never gave me grief.
But it caused the death of the car. When I went to sell it no one wanted a petrol auto 60 series even for $5K with 4" lift, 35's, lockers and barwork. So I sold it piece by piece and fetched over $10K.
