Broken Hill 4x4 Comp ??????

Has anyone heard anything about a new comp at Broken Hill in 2011?

Word has it that it will be in a similar format as the OBC and Cliffhanger.
It is apparently going to offer more prize money than the Cliffhanger and entry fees will be less and meals will be catered for.

If any one has more info can they post it up so we can all get a piece of this prize money and action. ( Dates would help)

I have heard that they are looking at May to June sometime, also they are looking at running it as a non profit.Should be intresting. Whats the issue if its run around the same time as the OBC?

Got a call from a mate in SA this morning he was told it was possibly July 2011.
Either way it would be great if it has the big prize money, low entry fees and the diverse stages like sand, mud, hills, creeks and high speed etc.

I herd this about 10 mnths back, but it was only a "RUMOUR" & like all rumours you belive about 10% & discard the rest until you have more evidence. Also I didnt follow it up as my new comp rig isnt finished yet.

"heres what I herd" it was after the decision to move Clifhanger to Cobar, a number of infuential Broken Hill buisness owners were disapointed as they had spent considerable time & effort to set things up ie catering facilities, event sponcership, time from work to be officials/marshals ect.

If this is true you can understand their dissapiontment.
(1) an event like this brings buisnes & recognition( in the form of magazines & DVD's ect) to the region
(2) These guys luvd the sport, & with their buisnesses it may be fisically too far for them to take too much time off to go to..

JUST REMEMBER !!!! THESE ARE JUST RUMOURS
although we would all luv to see another event & Id help them out every way I could.

Word's been out for many years that the locals wanted their own event in town and good on them too. The Cliffhanger had their attention and all was good until after 5 years in the one place it moved on to new territory in the interest of that particular event. Now the idea of a local broken hill nevent is back on the cards and that's totally understandable.

I also think that a few more events that incorporate open country stages like in Cliffhanger and OBC is really needed to boost numbers and media attention.

Given that a great event is run and that they try to compliment what is already out there rather than outshine it then they will do well and will have my full support .. and entry form.

Im with you moose, even if the OBC ran a king of the hammers style stage at Poolamacca for the day as part of the comp it would create interest.

A local event, for the community, including the family, and those aspiring to be 4 x4 competitors.

Would be great to have another event in the regions of BH. But maybe it should tailor itself on the best of the OBC/Cliffhanger and be held over a shorter period. It's market should be the budget minded, first timer, those who want experience, the competitor who wants more events, and locals.

The guys who run the OBC/Cliffhanger have considerable experience and worked very hard to ensure their event provided the best for spectators and competitors. They should be congratulated for what they have achieved.

There is considerable experience in BH and maybe it is not being utilise fully.

"The Broken Hill 4 x4 Challenge Cup"

Three Days - Creek - speed for the boys, Nav-track notes, tuplip - serious but fun, Winch - difficult, medium, and hard.

Day One - Friday - register, scrut, set up camp - bbq fun night - band
- safety and recovery demonstrations
- view the rigs
- four wheel drive clubs promotional day
Day Two - Saturday - Creek Run - Stephens Creek or similar
- Prologue - close to BH for locals-involved
families, kids, locals - have a fun track.
Have 4 x 4 trade displays etc - get the
wholesalers and retailers involved.
- Night Navi - track notes course - fun
Day Three - Sunday - Winch - difficult to soft but close to BH/Camp site
- 3 Stage Course - difficult to soft but
easy for spectators to watch - close to action
- Presentation and Band for the Night
Day Four - Monday - Travel Home or see the sights of BH - GET
THE LOCAL TOURIST BODY INVOLVED

Vehicle Classes

Open Class - spend what you like
Production Class - modified re wheels, lift, lockers, winch
Standard Class - only modified re wheels and winch

Other Factors

Held close to BH - next to no travelling
Camp all together - no point hiding from each other - kids and all
Catered or BYO or stay in BH - remember low budget
No Price Money other than Sponsor donated stuff
Low Budget - cover costs - locals volunteers etc
Entry fee not to exceed $495 (not inclusive of food etc)
Spectator Packages from $195 or Day Passes-get the locals out

The "Broken Hill 4 X 4 Challenge Cup" objective should be for the serious guys, the let's have a go chaps, and I never used my SUV like that before. You can spend $100000 on your rig or turn up in the farmers paddock machine (as long as safety and standards are met - yes I would still have CCDA involved)

First of all a risk management, marketing apprasial, and local interest study involing commence, local government, and the toursist body should to be part of the plan.

No don't compete with the OBC but compliment it - use the "Broken Hill 4 X 4 Challenge Cup" as a stepping stonel and if you want then move up to the other major events.

You only need twenty vehicles and good deal of them will come from SA and BH.

You can have a event without the big entry fees and make it open to all.

But remember it takes planning, time and effort to make it worthwhile and fun for all.

Nice to see positive feedback re pos new event, as a local to the area its long over due for a locally ran event.

There a good number of very keen 4wd nuts in the area who have been involved in many different events ,

we do have a great spot for this sort of event.

Well, get a group of you together, form a committee and start planning your first event for 2011. The frist time is the hardest but will be worth the effort.

Friday Night Creek Run
Saturday Special Three Stage Event
Sunday Circuit Event in BH

Short, sharp and sweet. All stages to be close location to BH so locals can access during the day. No need for camping ground - competitors and spectators make their own arrangements regarding accomondation and food. You can enter a sponsorship deal with a local hotel to provide discounted services to those who attend.

Saturday night big, big, bbq and bomb fire - sugggest Silverton.

Make the event accessable to all and it will attract entries.

Happy to meet with you on the first weekend of the OBC - will be there. Suggest Saturday morning after the show and shine.

Interested - then get moving.

I have been hearing a few whispers but the organisers appear to be keeping things close to their chest. I think it is probably the legalities of runing an event that is slowing things up a little, not the lack of support from locals or interested competitors. If I hear more Ill keep ya posted.
