ExtremeAire Magnum air compressors, any one used them?

I am looking for a really good 12V air compressor to pump up my tyres, i know the air compressor thing has been done to death but my question is more about this one compressor and weather other people have used/tested it?

I noticed it is on the back of my 4x4 action custom mag, ill also put some info and web site... Let me know if its any good....

Imagine an ExtremeAire Compressor with TWICE the power and speed, all in a package only 2" longer than the original! I'll beat the others and ask, have you considered an 'Endless Air' compressor from Kareela Engineering in Victoria? That link you put in your post has something pretty similar too! The 'Endless Air' is pretty close to unbeatable for output and is a good start point for an 'on board air' set up, which is another thing that maybe you could consider.

I made a 'poor man's' version of an Endless Air, and it worked well for two years. If you have $700 to spend, the Endless Air would represent excellent bang for your buck, compared with a big $$ compressor from the US that isn't that popular here.

Just a suggestion and my 2c worth.

Also a voltage drop to these type of compressors can wreck them. When ever we sold a boss compressor we always drummed in to the buyer that they must wire these up perfect or warranty could be void.

There is currently no companies that make a endless air kit for the 3L-5L engines, they have them for the D4D and the 1kzte motors but are not the ones i need, i did think about that as it would be my prefered option.

My only option is to get a large 12V compressor, i was planning on wiring it up to a 175A anderson plug that way all i need is to plug it in and use it.

I have seen other compressors around 5.5CFM free flow and are around the $275 mark but i would doubt the quality would be there and i'm sick of buying crap products and having to rebuy because i was trying to save a few dollars...

My engine is a 5Le motor running power steer, a/c, cluch fan, waterpump, and there is simpily no room unless i disconnect my a/c... but that isnt going to happen...

just dont like spending money on cheap things only to find i have to buy something else. Also want to get the fastest compressor without costing a fortune.

I'm with you Jimbo!!

My last on board air system (after 2 a.c. compressors died due to lack of oiling) were 2x ebay (Max air copies) compressors. When I do an on-board air system for the GU, I was going to use 2x Ebay compressors (this time, Projecta Typhoon- twin head- compressors). For $60-80 each and with 2 sharing the load, there's no reason why it shouldn't last.

If you MUST spend money, get a twin tongue from opposite lock. BUT make sure you use BIG cable (fused) and run a neg cable as well to eliminate ALL possibility of voltage drop. Also, for the first 300-500mm of line, use the good quality black high temp and high pressure line. The air that comes out is VERY hot. I only used cheap line on my system (at first) and it blew with monotonous regularity.

Setting up an on-board air system (which you wil EASILY be able to do if you were going to spend $700 on a stand alone compressor!!) will get better results than ANY stand alone compressor, and it's WAY easy to do!!

yeh its a fair point, i guess for the price of them it cant hurt giving them a go.... At least if running the two compressors, if one shat itself there is still another that can be used...

Exactly Right!!

And if you're like most of us, it's not like you're using the compressor 8hrs a day, 5 days a week! SOMETIMES cheaper (Ebay type) things will do the job. One thing to watch is the cheaper ones pull BIG amps, one of mine used to blow 40A fuses under load when hot!! Just run 100A cable to them, keep them cool (I was thinking about soem kind of fan set up) and use relays to switch them.

Like power tools! Who HASN'T got a few cheaper ones in their workshop? You buy them, they break, you take them back to Bunnings and get a new 1!! Who loses?

We have listed these foir almost 2 years and yet to sell even 1. Price is the killer. Allow $1000 by the time it is landed with a tank and bits.

We have compressors at $125 that are about 60% as effective. But hey they cost only 15%. Run 2 of the cheaper and fairly reliable units and you are at par.

We have sold about 200 of the $125 units and had maybe 5 came back and got free replacement. So just because it is cheap doesn't mean it is always nasty.

And yes I like endless air and sell it too. Allow $600-$700 for the finished product.

The magnum does 2.6cfm/minute at 100psi (74 litres per minute)
The ARB compressor does 2.18cfm (62L/min) and it's only $300 or so.

If you are really serious about 12v air then you need the Warn VTC which does 226l/min at about 100psi which is almost 8cfm at 100psi. It does 20cfm at 0psi

I'll be getting one of these when i can afford it 4wd1.com is always sold out of these things so they're popular!




Cheapest i've seen them is abot $900 but if ou imports it from the states it'd probably be a bit cheaper.
