has anyone V6s died during water crossing?
hey guys, was just curious if anyone had experience their V6s died, coughing badly during/after water crossing? or could be as simple as an engine bay wash. need to know whether there is a specific issue with V6 ignition system and if there was any, what do ya do to fix or even better improve them?

Are you talking about your new 3.5?
They are brilliant around water. I am very confident in mine and would go as far as say it'd run under water. Never missed a beat and it's been through lots. All I did was run some sealant along the spark plug covers but I don't know if it is necessary as the plugs on one side bolt on and the other push on very firmly.
I do often worry about where the ECU is mounted though.

Just a tip that I use is the good old CRC SILCONCE SPRAY (808)
It is great for all the wet stuff I put on before every trip I found it works really well and doesn't effect the leads or anything else as the water just flies off
Around $15.00 a can a good buy but it does make the engine bay a little untidy as dust does stick to it

It sits behind the LH kick panel. Basically level with the floor. If you get water inside it can flood the ECU. So far i have been lucky with mine and it was running the whole time it was filling with silty water and i drove it 3 hours home. My engine did die, however it was not electrically related, it had sucked silty, muddy water directly into the sump which caused it to throw a big end. I've been surprised with how deep i have been in river crossing etc and have had no missfire whatsoever .
oh yess. i got some negative feedbacks on me favoring petrols over diesels. said engines with spark plugs have bad reputations during offroad, especially venturing water crossings. for this conversion, i'm trying to secure all the electrics as far as i can think of. i'll take a picture where i place mine.NJV6 wrote:Are you talking about your new 3.5?

perhaps the factory had the circuit board covered with silicone or some sort of protective coating. i never open my ecu casing because the they placed a (limited) warranty sticker on it.hudson44 wrote: It sits behind the LH kick panel. You can try this stuff Hudson with no problems what so ever, I and my Technitions use it in my workshop on any Electrical componets, used it loads and loads of times on customers ECU's with NO problems what so ever and its not expensive either, I paid about £3 95 a tin in a box of 6,hudson44 wrote:It sits behind the LH kick panel. its called AMBERTRON and its made by AMBERSIL LIMITED here in the UK. So they may change the name of it for export, its a simple electronic cleaning solvent and its in a 400ml airasol spray tin, but it certainly cleans everything I used it for, but there you go, if you manage to find it or something like it, then you can clean your ECU with it no bother.
