The EFI loom goes intothe dash. If I were you I'd wire in an aftermarket ECU like a Wolf, you get a new loom, not a 20 year old brittle one, you can do away with the restrictive MAF and go to a speed density system, MAP/IAT. If you are going to the effort you might as well get something you can tune for peak performance.

My plan was to just by a stuffed efi motor and take the efi gear off it and then run some kind of after market ecu but was just wondering if it is legal to run one

Basically aftermarket ECU's present hurdles from an emissions standpoint. Generally you will need to satisfy an engineer that the engine complies, he may want some data to back it up and possibly the ECU locked from further modification.

I'm looking at a single point throttle body injection set up off an EA Falcon, apparently it's fairly straight forward and the parts are cheap as chips. Just a slight adjustment to make it fit without an adaptor. Not sure on using the Falcon computer tho.

Also, throw your points away and install a PERTRONIX igntion to your distributor. You don't need to pull the dizzie out to do it and it's the best way to fix that classic TB42 1200 RPM stumble.
Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.
