seriously though.......
check out www.lextreme.com
those guys know just about all there is to know about these motors.
also searh through boofs build up on here and twisty did one in a surf and nemisis(sp?) did a surf one also.
when i did mine i used a CRS bellhousing and had no huge dramas with it but others have had probs with them. dellows also do a kit for them.
if you are going to go manual use the r series box from the surf and bundy.
if keeping the auto you can mod the existing auto and use a surf auto transfer on the back

sorry offtopic, but is it true u have to install a newer motor to the car

example: have a 2000 model lux, can only put motors newer from 2000. is this true or can u out an older motor into a new car?

in theory yes the motor has to be same or newer than the vehicle you are fitting it to.....
this is for emmissions regs
easy way round this is straight gas ie 350 chev into GQ or 80 series.
best off shopping around for an engineer though
some will allow duel fuel and for something like a 1UZ motor they may make exceptions(to a point) as
japanese emisions regs in 1993 were the same as austrailian ones in 1995(example only prob not accurate)
with the right engine - vehicle combo the engineer will be pretty happy with most things.
best tip is to do your homework and set it all out for the engineer on paper so he knows that you have half an idea about what you are taking on.
engineers like details.......
if there is a proven "off the shelf" way to do it go that way dont reinvent the wheel unless you have to.
find an engeieer that deals with 4wds regulaly as some only do trucks(for example) and can make your life hard because they want to.
these are meerly suggestions for my limited experience with engineers and modifing cars

With an 03 model in Melbourne I am not 100% sure what you would need. In Qld a VVTI version could be installed in an 03 legally. easy enough.
Toy: 98 TJ with some mods and some bling
Tourer and daily: 120 Prado with some mods

Check with Vic roads what you can do or your local engineer. In Qld & Nsw a conversion of this type has to comply with current 2009 emissions so fitting any engine pre 2009 can't be done unless it has the extra emission crap to comply. Bloody buracrats! all we want is MORE POWER! They can't even come to a conclusion on envionmental issues in Copenhagen. Ist it real or something made up to scare us into having no fun.

dont bother with vic roads they dont know their a$$ from their elbow.....
speak to a vic roads approved VASS engineer they are the ones that have to sign off on it so they will telll ytou what you can and cant do.
boofs point is the best VVTI motor is your best bet harder to wire but should pass.
check out :

One good peice of advice is -DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE " CASTLEMAINE ROD SHOP" ANY MONEY, AS THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF QUICK SMART-. They deserve a Logie award for the saga of lies they will tell you about what they can do and have done, and once they have your money you will never hear from them again, so if the kit dont fit then "TUFF LUCK". They are the pro's at ripping people off, they do not even bother defending themselves from allegations such as this as it is an open and shut case and they know it, if i ripped them off then they would persue me for their losses, but when they ripped me off they try every trick in the book to thwart my efforts to get my money back, i can speak from experience as i have tried and lost, i may as well burnt 2K$ as at least i would have seen somthing for my money, this did not include solicitors costs. They actually said send the kit back and we will rectify the problem, then after months of lies i actually found out they never ever made a conversion of this type and it was my fault so they kept the kit and my money, go figure? and they still wont admit it and i have the paperwork trail to proove it.. So let it be known they are """THIEVES""" :x
