Hey all,

Wondering if anyone knew a couple things about mine cars.

i am looking at a ex BHP mine supervisors 80 series. only 80k on it as was moved off the mine at 40k and a older hobby farm owners only drove it around the farm.

iv noticed its got a low coolant alarm light on the dash and also headlights are wiring to always on with ignition. also AVM hubs witch i thought was odd.

where are the headlights usually hardwired? cluster end or headlights? and what is the coolant thing?

My Guess:

. Headlights would be OH&S maximum visibility at all times.
. Low coolant alarm because if no coolant no temp reading. Prevent people blowing them up when no water in them.
. AVM hubs so you can manual select them if it's GXL???

SCANAS, yeh its a std and realise why they are there, moreso wanting to know where they install the coolant thing and where the mods are done to the headlights if anyone has done same

The low coolant alarm on my 60 is plumbed into the rise that goes up to the radiator cap.

Headlight's are requuired to be on at all times on the mine site's and the low coolant alarm is because there are to many bone heads working sorry employed in the mineing industry that love to wrek anything and every thing. One of the bigest things to check on ex mine vehicles is rust as the water in the mines are very hard.

One i am looking at is a 10/97 80 std. Got 88000k's on it. 3rd owner
std mine spec but has 2" lift and 33s on it.

only rust i can see is std 80 affair around rear fixed windows and a little on the front chassis rail from what i can see.
reasonably neat rig, needs a little tlc but not much. 15k and mainly paying for the K's and driveline conditon.

80s are massively varied prices here, most 350k>

id be very careful with corrosion.
mine sites are terrible for that.

Dunno bout the coolant alarm, but on a bhp site it will be more than likely headlights on at all times, so basically when you turn the key the headlights will come on.
You will probably find that you cant use high beam unless you actually manually turn on the headlight switch.
Thats how they are all set up where i work.
If it was a supervisor/OCE's vehicle and only got 80k on site, there must have been issues with it, or it would have just been passed down to the breakdown fitters or operators.

Going by what i can found out, it was one of the last 80s to go to site and only did ~40k or less at site and then shipped out to private owner.

we did the rust check today and only spots we could find was 2 tiny spots behind the gaurds, rear fixed windows underneath and front crossmember surface rust.

all common 80 places to rust. just gotta high pressure hose it and hit with some rust killer + erp i am thinking

coming from mount isa i would advise not to soley base your purchase on kilometers as the vehicles are left idiling constantly because the supervisors don't like getting into a hot car and usually as a rule they have to be in low range whilst in the pit area which is a lot of engine revving for not many kilometers

Yeh i realise that, but also could happen in the other 80s i am looking at with 400k on them unfortunately,

going to give her a oil+fuel filter change this weekend. air filter is all good.

Coolant alarm i have found also, module sitting under the dash and sensor in the top tank next to the top hose outlet.

Aircon needs a regas i think as it gets cold but not quite how it should.

i'll do a buildup soon
