gq shorty fuel economy+running rough

gday, i have a gq shorty petrol 4.2 with 33's and 4inch lift overall. out of a 130 litre tank about how far should i get? The best economy so far is about 4.2km/l :cry: town+hwy combined.

Also when I start the car in the morning it runs on 4 or 5 cylinders for a while then after about ten minutes it comes good and runs perfect. Is this an issue with the auto choke or perhaps vacuum leaks or another reason altogether.

im no expert or anything but i had a jackaroo a while ago thats was extreemly rough in morning starts but i found when i had the head gasket done on the jackaroo they did a tune up and check things over but found my auto choke shut tight, when he opened it up morning starts were much better

so maybe check the choke on it and see how u go :cool:

Dont know much about the rough running but i know all i get is around 4km/ltr off road, 5km/ltr around town and 6 to 6.5km/ltr on highway. But even those figures change depending on how much i put the boot in :cool:

wish i could get 4km/l for offroad, mine is something like 2km, or even less, depends on how hard i got, but i am running bigger tyres and standard gearing (offroad only) so that may have something to do with it.

I get through about 60 litres LPG on a weekend. about 20kms.. :lol:

for me, to get to walhala 4x4 area, 125km, whole day of 4 wheel driving, and fill up about 30km from home or even once 80km from home in moe.

on a trip like that i can go through about 120 litres.

Sounds like what BMW did with it's V12. You could "Turn" half of it off for better fuel economy :lol:

I had the same problem with my TB42 in respect of the rough running at startup. Here is what I found . . .
- TB42s are really fussy about their ignition
- make sure that all of the no-brainers are sorted (I replaced all plugs, points, coil, dizzy cap, rotor button, vacuum advance working fine, timing set correctly, etc)
- Get an extended rotor button from Performance Ignition Services in Nunawadding
- Get rid of the points-based ignition and replace it with a "box of sparks"
Since I have done that, mine runs fantastic, idles like a dream and revs as nicely as that big lazy biatch will! :cool:

Oh yeah. Fuel consumption is about 18l/100km on the highway and 23l/100km around town. :shock:

those figures sound about right, my old shorty with nearly 300,000 on it would, on gas get about 27 - 30 l/per 100 round town, 20 - 27 l/per 100 on highway, on petrol around town about 25 l/per 100 and down to 18 - 20 l/per 100 on highway. Dual fuel seemed to rob the engine of power on both fuels.... i had an extended rotor button from that performance place, $35 for a change over, walked in off the street and they had them there, nice guys there, they even changed it over for me! (lol 2 minutes work, but didn't have a screwdriver with me)

holy f_ck! what a piece of shit, lucky you smashed it! :D

they are thirsty, but that is by far the worst I have heard of..
the stock one I have just bought gets around on way less than 20/100 on gas, around town/on highway doesn't seem to matter much.. I am pretty impressed.. the other one with big tyres and shit would still be better than the figures you posted, and it had some pretty "interesting" tuning..

i was getting it tuned at a gas specialist in the next few months, would have been interesting to see the difference, the best i got on gas on my run to perth was 495 km from 105 litres of gas...... i think maybe it was getting a bit tired coming up to 300,00 and also needed a good tune up, oh well, to late now

GQ lwb 4.2 petrol,286,000 k's, 5 speed with air con running 99% of the time. I get just on 400 k's to a 75lt tank.
And i thought that was bad. :D

Gee KRI55, that's not too bad. Is that around town or h/way? I thought that my figures were pretty much spot on, but if you were getting that around town . . . .

Any other mods? Mine's lifted with 32" muddies, so i guess that doesn't help.

Nah! No other mods yet.Runnin 31's on 15 x7's. And yeah those figures are just runnin to work an back ,bout 3 k's out of 22k's are spent on the highway each way to work.
An to top it off,i know that my carbi isn't real good. :cool:
