Pertronix vs electronic dizzy and matching coil
Pertronix vs electronic dizzy and matching coil
has any one installed or know of anyone using a late model efi tb42 electronic dizzy and coil rather than using the Pertronix conversion on the old tb42 is this possible and does it have its advantages
not possible. the EFI dizzy has a fixed shaft and doesn't directly drive the coil.
Leave the pertronics at the shop and let some other fool waste money on the unreliable voltage sensitive bits of shit.
Spend the extra and get a Crane XR3000 kit with a PROPER 12V coil

A speed camera would have prevented that!
I have had the Petronix for over 2 years without a drama. Car is stock so all I desired in the conversion was to ditch the points for ever.brad-chevlux wrote:not possible. the EFI dizzy has a fixed shaft and doesn't directly drive the coil.

I am the Nightrider! I am the chosen one. The mighty hand of vengeance, sent down to strike the unroadworthy!
they don't run with low battery voltage. We had one at work on an MG, it would start and run with points, it would not start with the pertronics. how ever if you got a second battery jumped it straight to the ignition system it would start and run with the pertronics.RN wrote:I have had the Petronix for over 2 years without a drama. put a crane XR kit in it and it would start and run with out a problem on the same battery that would not start the pertronics.
Good luck push or tow starting with a dead battery in an emergency.
I also don't see the point in 'upgrading' the ignition and keeping a low out put 9V system. Then people will go out and buy extended rotors to help fix the weak ignition. Kill two birds with one stone and fit an XR3000 and 12V coil.
