Anyone with 5.3 diff ratios?

Got a mate that wants 4.88. Am going to give him mine and he is gonna buy the 5.3's for me. Just wondering if anyone out there running them and if so had any probs with strength with the pinion being smaller?

Where from? As far as I know Iceland is the only place with 5.12 or 5.29? I think.. And they aint keen on exporting them.
there are some in Aussie, hard to find I heard.

You can get em, but why bother go the twin cases. :D

hi tazz. i just fitted some in a set of cruiser diff's , they are pretty small , FWD in brisbane has them ,think there around $350 per set . had problems setin them up ,had to make new spacer's [2mm ] between the head and the bearing , had to grind some of the housin where the gears run on the edge but thats about it . will pm u friday night with number if intersted.

Ive been thinkin bout them for a while myself - problem is - how strong are they? ive heard a lot of cases of them being very weak :S

I'm with cheezy on this one. Justv run 4.6's which we know can take a beating. Then have twin cases so you can get the gearing with stock transfercase gears down to about 70:1, then if you get one case with rockhoppers it goes down to over 100:1.
Also the cost of doing this would probable be about the same amount as going with the diff gears.
As arnt they $500 an end for the gears then $200 and end for fitting and setting up.
Where as you could have twin cases forparobably somewhere around $1600. As the 2nd case is about $1250, which is easy to fit as it is a bolt on thing. then just take the drive shafts somewhere to get the back shortend and the front lengthend.
Then drive slower.

I work for Arctic Trucks in Iceland. We have these 5,13:1 gears. I dont know if it is feasible to import them to Australia unless in bulk.

Any ideas for a dealer for us...

Is there real interest for these gears? They have mainly been used for 38" tires here in Iceland, but probably some have used it with 44" tires.

We haven't even established if he has a Patrol yet, he could own a Pathfinder or even a Datsun 720 :D
