For everyones information, team Powerful 4x4 entered the competition to show everyone you can enter a rig into Australia's biggest 4x4 challenge without the $150,000 price tag plus have a awesome fun weekend. With only 6 weeks handed to the team and jsut $15,000 to build the car - the boys did extremly well to GET the rig running and compete in each event. True aussie battler spirit was shown by the team.
The boys driving the rig, were approached many times by the crowd to give them a little excitment - they knew they had no chance to beat the likes of Team Pirate....
In regards to the mic showouts, Powerful 4x4 were a major sponsor of the event. Powerful 4x4 committed quite alot of money to the event. Each and every sponsor got given the same opportunity as Powerful, but didnt take on the opportunity. For example some sponsors didnt even show up!
There have been quite a few cars in the same predicament, Low budget rigs / there to compete but not be "compeditive", this has been the spot that i was in for the past 2 years. And i believe that i was pleasing the crowd and doing my sponsors proud by the tracks i attempted and in the manner that i attempted them.
The comments by the crowd watching were more along the lines of the driver & navi being "idiots" was a term that i heard quote regulary, especially after the performance that was put on at the mud and on the Devils marbles. There are better ways to "Give a Little Excitment" rather than just be silly & breaking the car.. that kinda thing makes the day run slow not just for the team involved but with others that were helping too.
In my oppinion you should probably thank the guys that helped to get the car back on the track rather than the driver or navi.

I don't think the public know how much every team helps every other competitors team out over the weekend. I know I had help from many teams by just borrowing tools etc.... Plus then i helped out by giving a transfer case to another competitor.
So to all competitors thankyou for evrything a lot more Cars would have been out on Saturday if it wasn't for fellow competitors.

I just couldnt figure out why you wanted to roll off the travel ramp?
in the end it only held things up a couple of mins. i had feared a major delay. although i think the potential risk of injury to the photographers was something that wasnt too well thought out.

From my side of the fence as a Spectator and Ex competitor as well as spectating with other Current Competitors, Ex competitors, Event officials and Ex officials. The common concensus were they were taking the driving like an idiot way to far. Im surprised someone wasnt seriously hurt. And i imagine Pete is now having to look at concrete barriers and screens around some of the course after this past event.
I beleive im pretty well known for putting on a show for the crowd at competitions. But i dont think ive ever taken it as far as these guys were on the weekend.
I can also see it from the other side and understand why some people thought it was cool to watch. We all love carnage, Big HP and lots of smoke.
Im not here trying to put shit on the guys but maybe give some thought next time to what could have happened if things got way out of control with the way you were driving all weekend. The last thing we need is a death at TTC.

I better say a public thanks to Team MOG. At the top of heartbreak ridge We put the truck on such a lean that the power steering dipstick popped out and leaked all the fluid out, They came to the rescue with all of their spare fluid. We also sheared a tyre valve off a front wheel on the same track and they're the ones who helped us put a new valve in the wheel and got us back out there.
(it wasn't as simple as just pulling another valve thru the hole, we couldn't find one big enough so we had to seal the hole with a bolt, some rubber and some silicone and then drill another hole in the wheel for the smaller valve.)
these guys pretty much dropped everything to help us and we really appreciated it.
I think you'll find thats the general attitude amongst competitors at TT..

Micka i have now taken over Pete as the official Tuff Truck bridesmaid! both the bfs and the irocks are great tyres. I have a sweet spot for the bfs probably because I won tuff truck on them. I would say that they are the best pure competetion tyre, but there weak sidewall lets them down for social driving. Well done to all the event organisers, sponsors, spectators and competitors of Tuff truck. The best yet by far. Congrats again to Team Pirate for 1st place, and to the 'ranger' Rhett for coming third. the conversation we had as you drove around the Rock Garden is probably my stand out memory from Tuff Truck. Bring on 2011!!!!

Well, today was the first day I've been able to go about normal "ish" life in the past 5 months.
I did imagine that the effort required to stage such an event would be massive, & it was. taking on the roles & duties of 4 previous owners was somewhat overwhelming to say the least. Hats off to them for getting the event to where it was in 2009.
I thought the event ran surprisingly smoothly, full credit goes to all the event staff, from managers to site staff, stage managers & there assistants, volunteers & helpers.. & anyone else that helped make TTC2010 a great success.
The Manitous were absolutely awesome, they will dominate 2011.
I had some initial expectations leading up to the event & I must say they definitely were met. as we drew closer to the event, my expectations increased, however they were not met, so I'll just go back to my initial assumptions which is what I based everything on.
Whilst the crowd numbers were lower than 2009, I felt that the decrease in crowd was great as it seemed that we had a lot less dic*head factor, which was great.
Sure there were a few minor incidents, but thankfully nothing major.
i thought security did a great job, I even stepped in myself to sort a few things out. Police I thought were ok. there presence definitely made the event better. Next year, we will have what I asked for this year, & that is double the amount of police.
This year saw a lot of new teams, hence the quantity of damage suffered. There was carnage everywhere, the pitt area looked like "pick n payless"
Next year will see:
More Competitors - I will honestly be shocked if we don't get 50 starters.
More Police
A new stage
A re vamped mud run or alternate spectacle.
Recycling bins
Possibly large screen scoring
More exhibitors
More Manitous
More kids activities
& a few more along the way.
Thank You to all that attended TTC2010. This was my 1st event as owner/director of TTC & I have learnt a lot in the past few months & will certanly be giving the event another shake up in 2011.

it has alway been a dream of mine to enter tuff truck about a month before the event i was offered to enter and compete for FREE yes FREE
on the condition i spent as little as posible
i build the rig with nathan after hrs away from my 6 kids and wife ( a big thanks to my wife your the best)
nathan told me what we should do and we did it with out him it would have broke something on the first event we made it as strong as possilbe as cheap as possible
we only got to test it 1 time before tuff truck a meni
when we arrived a tuff truck i shit my pants i had only enter in nissan trial in standard 4BS
nathan said we need a belly plate so we went to get some 12mm thick steel and with the help of all WE bilt a solid mount belly plate (welded straight to the chassis
at the show and shine everybody was making fun of us i think we got 0
the first event was the mistery night stage (im shore it was only a myster to me i nearly rolled it driving up to it) we got 80 point and broke a steering arm as nathan said we would (this was the only thing we had spares of)
the next day we had min wiraba ,rock garden and rocky horror
we started at mini wiraba and nearly rolled of the first rock but we manged to get to the big rock at the end
next we followed a buggy to rocky garden and broke another steering
then we went to rocky horror at the top nathan keep telling me to move 6 time i moved then he said gun it down the hill lucky i listened a lot of 4bs got stuck there even rolled
i was getting more comftable with the rig
then we went to heart break rig what a peformance we got stuck on diffs all the way up bloody 38s then the motor court on fire (i lost some leg hair ) nathan put it out and i knew it would not make up the hill so a just gave it all it had and over we went what a ride better than dream world
we welded the engine back in and the gearbox my brother took the gas tank to get refueled
we lined up for the travel ramp the crowd was screaming boring i was 3 4bs behind
the comintator suggested that i do something spektaculer i said i will roll it on the travel ramp if they could pick me back up straght away i knew i would be lucky to get 30cm up it with out a wheel coming of the ground so i launched it 5.2m i got before ending up on my head what a mad felling they got me out of there with in a minute (as it was pre planned)
then i went to the mud drags i found the wombat hole a walk in the park and made it through most of the corse but then my powersteering belt come of and the hi low shifter came of so i went back to the pits and fixed it no time
i came back down were i offered to launch it into the mud i should have just went to bed it took me a long time to wash the 4b as we had to what for water so i didnt get much sleep
sunday i had jaw breaker frame twister and devels marbles
roofy offered to drive the rig so he said to come and get him so i parked at the top of jaw breaker and went to get him he by that time had changed his mind so i went back up the hill over the first couple of rocks and broke the steering arm again wayne from mad fab let me use his welder and i made a tie rod out of what was leaft

In my oppinion you should probably thank the guys that helped to get the car back on the track rather than the driver or navi.

"chick's" like Kristal are exactly what the comp scene needs, you would not believe the trouble she went to in researching every team prior to Tuff Truck. The more my wife and daughters(ok and me) learn about the basics, the more enjoyable the whole experience is. Totally agree Paul, KRYSTAL did alot of work behind the scenes before she even got to the event. It was good to see and hear a females voice over the mic, just one more step Pete has done to make it more of a family scene. All the females in my camp site loved that Krystal was there and she know what she was talking about to......bring on Krystal for 2011 tuff trucks again.

Just got home last night at 12 after 3 days on the return journey to WA.
To all the people who made us feel so welcome thanks very much this comp just blew me away with how well it was run and how hard the courses were.
Tony and Steve think you did an awsome job .
We will be back next year hopefully with another car to make it a 2 car WA team.

I couldn't let this comment go without a rebuttal. As a Tuff Truck competitor for the past 6 years I guess I should be offended by your comments re vehicle build quality etc. but to be honest - I agree...Ruffy wrote: I have to say i was suprised, it was bigger than i thought, the organisation was professional but the competition was not. That being said, the average Tuff Truck doesn't need a flat roll axis, low antisquat values etc. Tuff truck is primarily about building a truck that will climb over smallish (nothing longer/larger than a car length) obsticles. This places an emphasis on good clearance (large tyres and relatively high belly height), stength and agility. Well this is what the front runners have anyway along with a good driver and navi combo. If you're down in a creek bed ready to roar up a dirt bank with lots of horsepower in a winch challenge, then suspenision geometry is important. In a tuff truck (and even a rockcrawler to a lesser degree) as long as the suspension doesn't bind, get's good travel, doesn't break and is reasonable predictable then you'll be ok. My own car is what has what we believe to be a well setup 4 link rear but the front is just leaf springs. There are a number of reasons that the font is still leaf sprung and all of them are performance driven for this sort of terrain. Sure they would be terrible at +100km/hr when racing but for all terrain courses, they work well.
The pulling on a spotters strap is something that has come from rockcrawling. I can appreciate that the average Joe would not see the benefit nor the reasoning for it being part of the competition. At this point, it is allowed in the rules so why not use it?
As far as the remainder of the points you raised, I will offer no comment other than I agree more than I disagree. (kinda like sitting on the fence but with my feet dangling on one side!)
P.S. Also keep in mind that it is difficult to have a flat roll axis when you're playing with +40" tyres and a flat belly.

As for powerful, like it or lump it they were the best showmen there and used the crowd to there advantage.. That's good business, good marketing, and money well spent by there sponsors. Sponsorship is a business, not a token gesture. If you want sponsorship ask yourself what you can give your sponsor. Do you think they care for 1st place when someone else who's a better showman steals the lime light?
Well done to Pete and his crew. The security and police presence was nearly perfect. Not too overbearing but they were every where all the time. I'd consider my entry fee money well spent.

I'll be definately keeping an eye out for your entry next year after that load of utter dribble. What exactly is the problem with holding a vehicle with a strap to help stabilize it or gain traction? I'm looking forward to seeing your truck. . . . . . . . .
ANYWAY a big congrats to our top placed competitors. Dan, Mal and Rhett, you all put on some unforgettable driving displays. Some of it was just pure art .
But that doesn't just apply to these fellas, over the whole weekend i watched some insane drives. Some included driving bonus lines in lesser modded vehicles like Team Bundy on the Frame Twister , the Mogrover in the Mud with the 351 sitting at around 7000rpm for ages and slowly making it to the 100 point marker. Just to name a few. . . . . . . . .
Also i think we have a contender for Wayno of MadFab, for most relaxed competitor. Rhett having a conversation with Mal and Nick driving through the RockGarden was ridiculous
It was mentioned to me by stage Managers and officials how much more proffessional the teams were this year. The vehicles have increased in presentation, even Twon spent some coin . So well done to the teams.
A MASSIVE, MASSIVE THANKS to our hardworking stage managers and assistances. The hours they spent preparing the tracks in weeks leading up to the event was a credit to them. The tracks were great (although some competitors may disagree ) and run extremely well, thank you Ladies and Gents. Also a big thanks to everyone who helped to keep the competition running.
The weekend seemed to run very well, we had the usual waits for competitors, but the huge efforts from nearly every competitor to keep the vehicles driving and putting on a great show for everyone to see. Some spent more time in the camping area fixing the rig than up at the competiton area, but a huge effort from every team allowed most to continue. ALSO what made us extremely happy, was how much the teams were helping out each other. Wether it was lending parts to rebuilding diffs, was great to hear and see
Team Manitu, awesome. Recoveries were super quick and efficient. To the fellas with the Manitu's, Excellent job done.
To Pete, congrats for a great event. If it wasn't for Pete, Tuff Truck would not be happening. TTC was gone, done and buried for 2010 and beyond, until Pete come along. The platform had been laid by the huge amount of work done by Greg Paige and the team in previous years, and hopefully we can continue building Tuff Truck bigger and better each year.
Last year was a huge lesson for me, with not having a clue what i was in for, so this year i had a better idea what to expect, and have learnt a great deal from Tony as to what it takes to run an event like this. So a big thanks to Tony for the patience in showing me what is involved in getting the show together
Lastly, a huge thanks to Mal for letting Tony and myself have a drive of the BushRangie . That topped it off for me .

Team Anabolic would like to thank all the competitors for making Tuff Truck 2010 the best so far. Also a big thankyou to Pete for risking alot, to make his dream, and many others come true.
After 6 tuff trucks we finally placed a respectable 4th and narrowly missed out on third by 6 points. We benefited greatly with a full year to tune the Jeep mainly suspension and learn to drive the car.
Andrew my navi and i, were a little dissapointed with our Sunday efforts as we had torque converter issues and we drove the last three tracks mainly on the starter, until the converter finally locked up and snapped all the bolts on the drive plate. That was the end of our weekend.
We would also like to thank Wayne from Mad Fab for lending us his welder to stitch up a crack in our high steer.
Finally Team Anabolicst beat OPW, o Yeh. Sorry Pete!
