modifying clutch fan to electric fan
my pajero 2.8 diesel turbo intercooler is using a clutch fan for the radiator can i modified it using electric fan from bmw or mercedes fan.wat are the advantages and disadvantages please help
Re: modifying clutch fan to electric fan
I swapped a clutch fan for an electric fan on a 3L V6 NH SWB, was fine until you were really working the engine and then it began to get hot. Swapped back to the clutch fan and have had no problems at all since.
If you feel how much air an electric fan pulls when running, it is comparable to a clutch fan when the engine is idling. But when you rev the engine up the clutch fan literally blows the electric fan away.

Re: modifying clutch fan to electric fan
The electric fan will also put a large load on the alternator which may not produce enough current to offset this.
Also, as burnse said, the engine driven fan draws a LOT more air through the radiator than a electric fan ever will.
This is needed in hot climates, such as malaysia.
