What would you use: 1.3, 1.6 or 2.0 V6
What would you use: 1.3, 1.6 or 2.0 V6
G'day just looking at a project car and I can get either of the above mentioned motors with it.
I have plenty of 1.3 gear so heaps of spares etc so don't need to buy in any other parts and know the ins and outs of them or the guy has a 1.6 and a 2.0l V6 sitting there. What's the power difference between the 1.6 and 2L and what gearbox would you use behind them? All has to fit in a NT lwb chassis and turn 33's (i have 6.5 transfer).
I was thinking of staying with the 1.3 as I won't really have to change anything to fit it or spend extra money on it to get it going but if the v6 is a good price I may go for it. Any fitted a v6 vitara motor to a sierra? Wiring hard to get around?

i think that would be more of a gearing/torque issue. there are plenty of 1.3 8 valves doing that stuff quite well, and i know they have less low down power than a gti motor.Ben_Sierra wrote:And none of it in the low revs where you need it for crawling...GRPABT1 wrote:Agreed, turbo GTi motor, cheap, easy and more power than you'll ever need.mrRocky wrote:turbo 1.3 injected
don't get me wrong, i actually detest the gti motor (done a few, not impressed) as for bang-for-buck and reliabilaty the 1.6 or h20 are far better.
whatever motor you decide on try to keep it stock and avoid adding not-needed components like turbos etc. get the gearing right, keep the engine stock and you will have a setup that lasts for years with only simple maintanance.

For once I agree with joe, keep it simple. Only reason i'd turbo mine would be for on road power to tow a trailer or just for the sheer fun of it. Really that kind of power isn't needed, my stock gti motor will hold 110km/hr in top gear easily enough with 31 inch pedes, 6.5 gears, lifted and added weight. An injected 1.6 makes about the same power so either will do fine. Off road I'm never lacking power with the gearing.

Looks like I can't get it now... Just don't have the funds and "I need to focus on the projects I already have" or something along those lines.
Would have been good as it was a brand new galvinised open top jeep replica body on a LWB chassis so had clearance for the 33's without any mods. If it's not gone by next week i'll have to try and reconvince the finance department!
