Not free, but cheap enough that anyone that bends tube should have it.
cheapest level is $69US "Bendtech EZ"
This software is the standard in tube bending software, and after a few hours it becomes very very easy to use, and works out everything for you.

modeling 3d tube can become a cumbersome process in a cad package not specifically designed for tube work. once you go from 2d tube and start changing the plane of the bend if becomes a little more tricky. it is not difficult if you have cad knowlege and can competently work with 3d sketches in your particular package, but if you're a beginner, i'd just ditch the cad and go paper and pen/trial and error/templates etc. it will take far too long to get up to speed with cad to be able to build a flexible bar model and then extract the bend information.
as suggested above, try bendtech, it makes bending tube easy.

Prodesktop. It has a fairly easy learning curve, I taught myself the basics in a day in highschool when I studied technical drawing. It has a fairly intuitive interface for working in 3d that will let you build models very simply.
Prodesktop has since been merged into ProEngineer which is a bit more complicated, however google is your friend for old downloadable student verions.

how do you like Bendtech Brooksy ? ....... man I love it, I have every version he makes and I will buy every upgrade as they come , I like it that much. the thing I really like, is you can talk directly to cris via the Off Road Fabrication network, and that is very useful when you strike a problem.brooksy wrote:X2 on Twistyv2.01 ......
