Im thinking of giving this a go, for the three products id like to trial it would set me back $265 + delivery, has anyone actually done this, its always advertised in mags so it must have a rep but i havent came across anyone that has used it yet.

America has something similar (and a heck of a lot cheaper), Seafoam. You put a 1/3 in the fuel, 1/3 in the oil and the remaining goes in via a vacuum hose. More info here

Here we have Subaru's "Upper Engine Cleaner" - but unsure if its diesel compatible - it should be, since they have diesels too.

Its been covered on here a few times (can't be fagged searching and posting links - you can do that!), as well as a few other different methods. From memory the cost effective stuff works a treat, provided that it isn't the grease/scum that is holding your engine together in the first place.

used that stuff for a major service at 150,000km's.

personally i think it worked quite well. i had bad problems with soot coming out of my exhaust, flushed the engine and what not and it went.

seemed to idle a little smoother too on cold mornings.

just my 2 cents.

I used it afew times, the first time I used it on my dudlux with a 2L-T in it .. I got an extra liter or so of "oil like substance" out of the motor .. Oil consumption dropped a little as well ...

It was always a gutless POS so I didnt notice any aditional power from it.

If you keep the proper service up right then you shouldn't have a sludge problem to begin with. Of course if you don't know the service history or suspect it may not be complete then it's worth ago.


However the bottom line is if the motor has been abused then no amount of magic snake oil will fix it. Parts will be worn and an expensive rebuild is inevitable. These treatments only delay repairs.

You have to be careful sometimes with these products. In older engines, its the soot and carbon thats helping seal youre rings. Get rid of it and it will become old smokey.

I used it on my GQ TD42, can't say I noticed any sludge come out or any particular difference in the motor. 340,000 on the clock so either my motor is pretty o.k or it didn't do anything...
