Tyres - what's available in 315/75 16s?

my cooper ST 315/75 16s are well and truly overdue for replacement. according to the date stamp they were manufactured in 2003 (I bought them new in 03) and across a set of 6, they have travelled about 120,000km, the worst of them still has about 6mm of tread however all 6 have varying degrees of tread blocks torn off, most down to the steel. overall they have served me well - they have had a few punctures, 2 have had plugs in forever and a third has been properly repaired, I can't really complain considering some of the terrain they have covered.

so what's available in 315/75 16 or 305/70 17? I want a full new set of steel wheels and tyres, wheels must have -28mm offset, I'll be looking at a set of 5 or maybe 6 again depending on price and availability. vehicle is engineered for this tyre and rim combination.

who knows what's available and at what prices? since I haven't shopped for tyres in seven years I have no idea. if you are a tyre man in sydney shoot me a PM. all opinions welcome

nearly everything on the market.. EG: Procomp extreme MT $500+ off street price mate paid few mths ago.

Probably not what you're looking for to replace Copper ST's but paid $440 each for Mickey Thompson Claws a few months ago (315/75/16)

maybe a bit extreme - I'm more towards the aggressive all terrain/smoother MT end of the spectrum but thanks for the info.

I was pretty happy with a set of MTZs I had on the patrol.

I've got Cooper STs now on the Landcruiser and as far as road noise goes, I woudl rate them the same as the MTZs.

they are under consideration. they were noisy though, especially when new, and the tread chunks tearing off really turned me off them - technically I drove around on at least 1 and up to 4 ilegal and unsafe tyres for years and I'd rather not repeat the (expensive) experience.

What rig are they on and what pressures did you run?
I had 35x12.5x15 ST's on my Patrol when I bought it and they had about 8mm of tread down to about 4mm after 3 years then I got rid of them. I never ran more than 30psi cold (actually I never run any 35's I have over 30 cold) and never lost any tread blocks on or off road but I understand any aggressive treaded tyre will do it on the bitumen if the pressures are too high because the tread blocks cant squirm around and flex on grippy surfaces.
If I'm wrong about this then I'm happy to be corrected.

80 series. 30 would be way too low for onroad, 35 - 37 is where they are happy. all the tread chunk loss occurred off road on rocks but it may have been contributed to by onroad conditions - although it started happening very early on in their lives. it would almost always be a front tyre, climbing a step or shelf that would case the tread to tear off.

Understand where you coming from!!! Thats why i dont like asking questions on here, do your self a favor and ring a tyre shop for professional answer's.But ring 2 or 3 of them good luck.

carbonblack returns what tyres are available in Oz (although it doesn't really cover the specialist brands Mickeys, procomps etc). It also lets you put in a postcode and tells who the stockists are.

I have the KM2 Mud in that size, and they are much noiser than my previous sets of tyres i have tried. however they seem to be wearing ok. I dont mind the noise my truck is quite noisy anyway.

Previously had

Pro Comp -xterrain - ok all round tyre got noisy towards the end.
Mickey Thompson MTZ - Great at the start however wore really quickly, and chipped blocks but these were one of the first sets that came out.
Cooper ST - great wear but shit on the road, didnt grip much
Good Year MTR - One of my favs good wear, however this is going back 5 years now.

If your wanting a quieter tyre not so aggressive, maybe the pro comp extreme all terrain, great wear quiet on the road but expensive or the BFG all terrain.

The only tyre I would recommend would be the MTR out of the ones I have had.
I'm possible replacing the MTRs as there a mates set that is on at the moment and also not really sure what to put on
Tempted to try the new MTRs or KM2 but neither are cheap in 315/75/16s.
Was thinking on going to 315/70/17s but hard to get size in anything I would put on to my cars.

Im thinking about running general grabbers on my 80 after tax time. Ive heard some great storys about them and read some good reviews. Otherwise ill be looking at toyos M55 or goodyears duratracs

Im currently running bfg's and there is no way ill pay what they want for another set.

I also have the Micky T atz's linked above on my troopy. only thing i dont like is they seem to puncture easily on work sites. They are wearing well and are great onroad and for most offroad

I wish goodyear didnt stop the old mt/r as the new ones wear terribly, better suited to play only
