Fj40 hardtop

Post by Frankenyota »

Looking at buying a '71 model fj40 that has no hardtop.
Would like to have a hardtop but not sure if a later model roof and sides will fit the early shape?
All the fibreglass places tell me they dont make stuff for the early cruisers and there not sure if the roofs fit.
I know the doors are different.

Cheers

the very early 40's didnt have the correct recess for barn doors but im not sure what year this change occured

i fitted a late model (bj42) roof and barn doors to a 1975 fj40 years ago with no real issues apart from needing to install nutserts for the lower door hindges in the tub

Pcman will the flip up rear door fit on the later hardtop?
Have been told the door strikers were different due to the doors.
The '75 has the later doors with lift up handles, this '71 has the old turn handles and metal trims on the inside.

Can get some later doors but need to know if they fit straight in?
Or are you saying this is where the nutsert is needed for the lower hinge?

Soft top is sounding easier.

No heater in this bad boy, so no good for winter.
