SHOW OFF YOUR TURBO PETROL/GAS PATROL
SHOW OFF YOUR TURBO PETROL/GAS PATROL
Just got my turboed tb42 going reliable now and would like to compare/add to my rig the tricks other poeple have found to get more power and reliability out of it. Seems like a few people have done this mod or sorcing info on turboing the petrol patrols. Pictures and dyno sheets with specs on engine mods would be excellent. Here mine , bit jerry rigged but goes hard. TURBO HYPER GEAR TR44 INTERNAL GATE, BORG WARNER TOP MOUNT EXH MANIFOLD WITH 38MM EXT WASTE GATE, 3 INCH EXH ,600X350X75 FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER, 440 CFM GAS RESEARCH MIXER, MODIFIED TB42 HEAD, CRANE IGN RUNNING BP7ES PLUGS, 11 INCH CHEVY HAYS STREET STRIP PRESSURE PLATE WITH TURBO DIESLE CLUTCH PLATE, LSD 4.11 REAR DIFF.

change it mate... stick a gu blower on it to cover the whole. that'd look way better!

Thats fair enough, but water and the internals of a turbo wont mix to well after awhile thats all. imo a $400 snorkel wouldve been better than what money will be needed to replace turbos let alone the DOT pulling you over for a properly unsecured pod filter. As i said if you enjoy it thats all that matters.turbmav wrote:This ain't going in water over the bonnet so why bother with a snorkle and water when rains actually makes it go better. The point of this post is to see other people's mods not to see if they like my filter or where I hang my fluffy dice or something.
turbo tb45 in my wagon
i have just recently finished my turbo tb45 build. dyno results-353rwkw(473rwhp), and 735nm torque at 20 psi. will try and post some pics soon
i think the dot will be more worried about the obstruction in the drivers view , seeing as they book people with the big uhf ariels these days and spotties on top of the bull bar , even bonnet scoops have to comply with strickt guidelines , im sorry , it may work really well but the dot / plod etc will look at that and start rubbing there hands togetherTower wrote:Thats fair enough, but water and the internals of a turbo wont mix to well after awhile thats all. imo a $400 snorkel wouldve been better than what money will be needed to replace turbos let alone the DOT pulling you over for a properly unsecured pod filter. I'd like to see the dyno sheet, not shootout mode on a dyno dynamics though please.
We have made 385 rwkW on the 4.5, thats a lot of work, cam, pistons, rods, head work, extractor turbo manifold, 76mm Mister Turbo roller turbo, 4" exhaust 850 cc injectors twin efi fuel pumps .....and so on. We could make a lot more with better fuel, thats on pump 98. With water/meth injection.
Cheers

ahh ignition, petronix ignitor 2 triggering a crane cams hi6S digital ignition, with a trc 2 ignition retard control, with map sensor (it retards spark as boost increaces), and that fed an msd blaster ss digital coil .
as far as motor work goes, it was bog stock, ran 8 to 10psi as the internal gate was a little slow to respond some times, and the turbo was a t3/t4 chinamans special
once it was written off i drove it round on 16psi and it flew, was like a rocket, but there was hints of valve bounce on the dyno when i tuned it way back in the day on 16psi, how ever it did produce a very healthy 160ish kw on 10psi
all up including complete gas system and dyno time, the turbo conversion cost me less then 4k, most of which was given to the gas joint but they did awsome work there tuning it, untill i blew the 425 apart, then i went down to a 225, picked up more torque, and its stronger
oh and i run a 3" full mandrel system (it just fits) and it has a single 15" hotdog it idles like a diesel but its loud as hell once the wastegate opens

oh i do have some tips for you aswell, change your lid to the alloy one, the plastic ones are known to flex on the b2 which can really fk up your mixes in positive pressure, also why are you using the low pressure gas port on the b2? is there any reason for it? just wondering

I'm chasing more info on ignition timing ramp/total and lpg air/fuel ratio. I understand these figures may have come at lots of dyno time but maybe a hit at ballpark figures would be nice, like what total timing to get over 200rear wheel killowatts. Just tuned mine with 11.1 lpg a/r seems smoother maybe earlier spool time. Need more info please.
The total timing is not a figure you just stick in and it makes power. It relates directly to cylinder pressure, this is a result of boost pressure, intake air temp, static compression ratio, cam size and valve overlap. Most high boost turbo applications do not acheive the optium peak timing as detonation occurs before enough advance can be added, a higher octane fuel would allow more timing and hence greater power is made. At low boost, under 7 psi it is often possibe to acheive optimum timing, a good dyno operator with chassis ears/knock box can do this. 11:1 AFR is too rich for LPG, its too rich for most petrol applications and LPG stoich is numerically 0.8 higher 15.5 vs 14.7.
